Forza 3 - First laps - Review

Forza Motorsports is by far one of the best racers around. History repeats itself now that around 300 000 people got their hands on the demo, which was made available last Thursday (09/24/09). First thing I thought was... Wow! The graphics are amazing, the cars' renderings are simply amazing and the track in the demo is just pure awesomeness. At first sight, I thought the game was going to be perfect. That stopped when I ran into a wall, did a few barrel rolls (ZZ-RR) and saw what had happened to my car. The front bumper had gone away, my doors were scratched, my hood was a bit deformed and obviously my roof had a few dings and dents. My R8 went from about 125 mpg to 0 in a fraction of second and it looked like I just went in a tight space and ran into a barrel on my way out. Another thing about the game is that when you're in cockpit view, the wheel moves so slightly when you're driving. It's obvious they were modeled at 180' . That could have been better. I hope the races are immersive enough to get past those details because I feel like the damage modeling (besides being able to roll over) is extremely similar to forza 2 in terms of how your car is affected by damage. The way the paint gets scratched is a bit better but when I did my B-Roll, the scratching was overdone, big time. Graphics are silky smooth and they're almost perfect. If you're playing in HD (I don't think 720 or 1080 would do a difference for this), start a race but let the track presentation screen roll. At some point you should see a barrage that is far. The rendition of the barrage looks a bit odd because it's not really sharp. Maybe it's just me but that place needs some work for sure. Other than that, the track is perfect. With Gran Turismo being pushed back, comparing both games will be a bit harder since Fan boys will bash eachother out but I don't think Forza 3 is going to do better than GT5. It will be an awesome racing game, but it will be second, just after Gran Turismo 5. Damage might not be modeled for each and every single car but those who will have it will also have deformation of the inside. If the whole game is like the demo, I'm aiming for a 9.5 out of 10. I hope we get the full track list and car list before the game comes out. Anthony
