Internet radio: A recap of recent developments

During the settlement discussions yesterday, SoundExchange's John Simson said that small and noncommercial webcasters may continue streaming next week without fear of the threat of legal action against them, and may continue doing so as long as good-faith negotiations between the parties are continuing. There was also progress made on the $500/channel "minimum" fee that threatened to bankrupt such services as Pandora, Rhapsody, and Live365. For more information, read this article at RAIN.


And last night, Nydia M. Velázquez and Ranking Member Steve Chabot from the Committee on Small Business introduced H.R. 3015, in a final attempt to postpone the implementation for new royalty rates and allow additional time to find a solution; the bill would delay the implementation of the rate increase by 60 days.
