Sadly, they haven't aged well. There are some great stories that have stood the test of time, like Terminator and Aliens, but from a technical aspect, they are so basic compared to today's movies that the only reason to watch them is for nostalgia.
@pyronaut: There actually is a difference depending on the context in which it is being used, but it's more of a difference between natural (sound waves) and mechanical (digital and analog), so not sure how it applies in the case of movies where it's technically all mechanical.
