Back when the PS3 came out I opted not to get one in favor of spending money to support my X360 game collection. I reasoned that there were no games out for the system that I wanted and I would probably wait until, the then far-off, Metal Gear Solid 4 came out. This past spring Konami released the new Metal Gear and Sony was kind enough to release a bundle with their still backwards-compatable (allbeit through emulation) PS3 for $599.99. Once again i choked, not having the six hundred bones to cough up for the monolith system and the newest installment of my favorite action series.
Now with christmas on the horizon, and I guess due to the economy being in the dumps, Gamestop is having a promotion that, combined with your Edge card, gives you an additional 40% trade-in credit for every 5 games that you trade in; hmm... I know that generaly GS\EB rips you off on trade-in value, but ebaying over 100 games I never play anymore in quick fashion didn't seem very feasable so I took them up on their offer and brought in 134 games that I either will never play again in my life or haven't yet played and to be honest, probably never will.
Well, Gamestop actually did pretty well by me not just in trade-in credit, but the first-class serivce that I got for doing so much business with them I guess (everyone at the store knows me by first name) but I walked out of the store with a new PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4, Disgaea 3, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma; all for $176.00 out of pocket.
I missed out on the PS3 units with Playstation2 backwards compatability, which bites, but my PS2 slim model is running great and I have another new unopened from the box as a backup. For the price I ended up playing I think I did pretty well compared to the $600+ that the 60gig and 80gig+MGS4 sets that are going for on ebay.
