For me, it did. It was a way for me to escape reality, aside from watching anime and listening to Linkin Park and Korn. Tactical games like Front Mission 3 and Final Fantasy tactics tested my brain. Suikoden 2 and Final Fantasy 7 made me interested to write my own stories. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is a classic!

I agree with you on the energy system, there are some things that should not require energy consumption at all. At least there should be a faster way to regain energy. As for the cash shop, there are other games out there that are blatantly pay to win. Black Desert feels like pay for convenience to me. What's stressing me out is the enhancement system but considering that in other games when you fail to enhance your gear it breaks, so BDO seems forgiving enough.
