Alright, so I have an older 360 system that doesn't have hdmi out. I recently purchased a 46inch 1080p samsung, and decided to go with the component cables (microsoft brand) to take advantage of some hd gaming. In the display settings on the console, it actually allows me to select 480p, 720p, and 1080p. I thought the component didn't output 1080p? the box doesn't say it, people say only 1080i, but the product info on xbox.com actually says 1080p also. Well, at first I set the output at 720p because I didn't believe the cables did 1080p. I started off by downloading a couple hd videos on xbox live and they looked great, played the mirrors edge demo and it also looked fantastic. I played left 4 dead and the picture was nicely detailed but the lines were jagged, even worse on gta4. So then I went back and switched the setting to 1080p, and tried the same games again. Both games seemed less detailed and crisp, but lines were much smoother. It actually looked alot more like i was playing on my old tube tv again at 1080p, which doesn't seem right at all.
Can anyone make claim that these cables do 1080p? And if so why would it look not so good? Just the cable quality? I'm thinking of just purchasing a newer 360 so I can use hdmi and fully utulize my tv's resolution, playing 720p on a 1080p set doesn't feel right.
