The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

This game changed gaming as far as I'm concerned. It's a must play.

Created the "Metroidvania" genre that so popular today. Great music and atmosphere. No Castlevania game has lived up to this one's grandeur.

-- --
6

Deus Ex

The greatest cyberpunk game ever made? Maybe until the new Cyberpunk game from the Witcher Devs comes out...

-- --
7

Batman: Arkham Asylum

One of the best superhero games of all time, first time I played a video game and actually felt like a superhero. Captured what fans wanted in a Batman game.

-- --
8

Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain

Like Zelda but with blood, and more mature themes. Insanely underrated.

-- --
9

NieR: Automata

Who knew a story about Androids could make you cry? Must play game.

--
10

The Witcher

A great PC RPG, hit some snags when it was first released but the "enhanced edition" is fantastic. Must play.

-- --
11

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening

The best in the series, insanely steep learning curve but once you get the flow right it's one of the most satisfying gaming experiences.

-- --
12

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

A tremendous sequel. A must play game for all FPS/RPG and Sci-Fi fans.

-- --
13

Blood Omen 2

The weakest game in the series, but not a terrible game. For the lowest point in the series, it's quite a decent game.

-- --
14

Half-Life 2

Still waiting for HL3....

-- --
15

Soul Reaver 2

Not as good as the original IMO, but a very good game nonetheless.

-- --
16

Batman: Arkham City

Improved upon the original in every way, the story is still suitably comic-booky and really caters to fans of the Batman mythos.

-- --
17

Silent Hills

Oh what could have been... what a hell of a teaser though.

-- --
18

Half-Life

One of the first games I ever bought with my own money.

-- --
19

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Little bit of a no brainer.

--
20

Unreal

A little underrated IMO due to the immense popularity of Unreal Tournament. Worth checking out, but is a bit long.

-- --
21

Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Film Noir in a third person shooter with fantastic bullet time gameplay. Great atmosphere and solid gameplay. The best in the series.

-- --
22

Hitman: Blood Money

They really can't top this one. Stealth gaming perfected.

-- --
23

Darkwood

Pretty much a spiritual successor to Silent Hill in many ways, focusing on dread and mystery. Worth looking at, but quite a difficult game.

--
24

DOOM

Killer soundtrack, awesome "barebones" gameplay and story. One of the best modern FPS IMO.

--
25

Portal 2

Fun first person puzzle game.

-- --
26

Mass Effect 2

A great sequel. More shooter than RPG this time around however.

-- --
27

Hard West

Great story, decent turn based strategy game with some glaring flaws. The wild west setting has never been so much fun.

--
28

Far Cry 3

Great game - arguably the best one in the series.

-- --
29

Super Castlevania IV

Best of the SNES/NES era of Castlevania IMO.

-- --
30

Injustice 2

Haven't played a fighting game as much as this. I'm hooked.

--
31

Unreal Tournament (1999)

Classic multiplayer, but also amazing AI for the single player bots at the time.

-- --
32

Starcraft

Absolutely classic.

-- --
33

Fallout

Old school. Game changing.

-- --
34

Shadow of the Colossus

Absolutely beautiful game with a compelling story and a great twist.

--
35

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos

One of the best RTS of all time.

-- --
36

Alan Wake

A great horror game from the creators of Max Payne. Exploration is fun, and while the gun play gets a bit monotonous by the end, it's a solid horror romp.

--
37

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars

Favorite in the series, I found this game to be the most balanced and loved the inclusion of the aliens as a playable race.

-- --
38

Diablo III

Best in the series, despite recent controversies.

--
39

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number

Improves on the original in every way, varied game play and more killer music.

--
40

Hotline Miami

Ridiculously tough, but tons of fun. Great soundtrack and atmosphere.

-- --
41

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon

The soundtrack, plot, voice acting and atmosphere are just perfect. A love letter to the 80s.

--
42

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena

Fantastic FPS/Stealth game - it comes with a remastered version of the original Escape from Butcher Bay which makes this the must-have version. Really would have wished for this to be a trilogy.

-- --
43

Dishonored 2

The original is great, but the sequel is worthy for it's expansive focus on furthering replay.

--
44

Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Improved on the sequel in every way. When coupled with Sonic & Knuckles, became a very unique experience.

-- --
45

Sonic & Knuckles

See Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

-- --
46

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm

All the first Dawn of War games were great IMO, but this final expansion is the culmination of what the RTS was trying to achieve.

-- --
47

Mass Effect

A fantastic RPG. Product of the 2000's gaming tropes however.

-- --
48

The Darkness (2007)

A unique gaming experience, great voice acting and atmosphere. Kind of a mix of an FPS and an adventure game with some unique mechanics involving light and darkness. Much better than the ho-hum rail shooter that is the sequel.

-- --
49

Red Faction

Played the hell out of this when I was in high school. Some of the best multiplayer maps IMO.

-- --
50

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings

A weird one, somewhere stuck between the first and the third as far as style goes. Game play is great and some very memorable boss fights are in this game. Great lead up into Witcher 3.

-- --
51

Slay the Spire

Addictive and very creative gameplay.

--
52

Freedom Force vs The 3rd Reich

Good comic book themed story and amazing gameplay. Improved on the original in every way.

-- --
53

X-Men 2: Clone Wars

One of my favourite beat-em ups. The character choices were great. Fond memories.

-- --
54

Alien: Isolation

A great horror game, probably the best game set in the Alien mythos.

--
55

Devil May Cry

Badass - 'nuff said.

-- --
56

BioShock Infinite

Best in the series in our opinion.

--
57

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Best in the series. A prequel unlike any other. Has some of the best boss fights in the PS2 era of gaming.

-- --
58

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

A good return for the game series, but short lived. Poor followups have put a nail in this series coffin I'm afraid. For fans of Castlevania.

--
59

BioShock

Great game play and great storytelling. Ending falls a bit flat however.

-- --
60

XCOM 2

My favourite XCOM game.

--
61

Fallout 4

Wasn't a fan of the other ones after they went from being a turn based RPG to a post-apocalyptic Skyrim, but this one is fantastic.

--
62

Duke Nukem 3D

One of the first video games I played on a PC.

--
63

Mortal Kombat (2011)

The best 3D MK game, even better than MKX in my opinion. Hits me right in the nostalgia since it pays homage to MK 1-3.

--
64

F.E.A.R.

A great FPS with horror elements. I think everyone remembers Alma fondly...

-- --
65

Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty

While not a fan of the 3 releases for one game kind of deal, all 3 of the games were great. Multiplayer is kind of broken I find depending on which version of the game you play.

-- --
66

Diablo II

Enjoyed this game, but found it outdated when it was first released.

--
67

Sonic the Hedgehog 2

First video game I recall owning.

-- --
68

Far Cry

I enjoyed this game a lot when it first game out, the sequels are arguably "better" and have a formula that works, but when this game came out there wasn't an FPS with as much openness to it, really set the bar.

-- --
69

Metro 2033

Fantastic game. A solid successor to Half-Life 2.

-- --
70

Metro: Last Light

Just as good as the original game. Nothing more, nothing less.

--
71

Strider

A very good modern "metroidvania" style game.

--
72

Arx Fatalis

A lot of fun, but quite difficult. The controls are a bit tough to master. Great atmosphere and gripping story. Voice acting is a bit hit or miss.

-- --
73

Resistance 3

Best in the series. Worth playing

-- --
74

Wolfenstein: The New Order

A great FPS, really good level design.

--
75

Legacy of Kain: Defiance

A bit of a low point to end the series on, there should have been so much more. Somewhat satisfying storytelling wise but the gameplay leaves much to be desired.

-- --
76

Shadow Warrior 2

A fusion of Diablo and a modern FPS, comparable to Borderlands but with a more ridiculous premise and more vulgarity. One of the best games of 2016 IMO.

--
77

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Never was a fan of LOTR, but this game is an amazing open world experience with a neat "Nemesis" system.

--
78

Batman: Arkham Knight

Didn't dislike this game as much as everyone else, thought the Batmobile parts were fine, and it expanded upon the mechanics of City. The whole Arkham Knight character controversy is understandable, and a little silly- but fits within the Arkham world mythos.

--
79

Dante's Inferno

Soft spot for this God of War clone due to the nature of it's content. A very well done game that I feel does the source material justice.

-- --
80

Final Fantasy VIII

My favorite in the series. Deeply flawed and easily exploited gameplay system aside, the more "realistic" (from a FF perspective at least) was more appealing to me than FF7. Not for everyone, but as someone who isn't a huge FF fan, this is my pick for the series.

-- --
81

Brutal Legend

Not the greatest game, but a killer soundtrack. Not for everyone and it's false advertising killed it for many.

-- --
82

Gunpoint

Easy to learn but hard to master is the best way of describing it. Tons of fun.

--
83

Transformers: War for Cybertron

I had a lot of fun with this game. Multiplayer was solid.

-- --
84

Sylvio

A unique horror experience that relies heavily on audio recording analysis. Creepy and well executed, but flawed.

-- --
85

Zeno Clash II

First person beat'em up. Highly imaginative world. But, it's kind of clunky. Play it for the experience, but don't expect to walk away from it with anything more than a memorable and unique experience.

--
86

Bloody Roar 3

One of my favorite fighting games of all time.

-- --
87

Shadow Hearts

A weird RPG that blends the occult with 1913 real-time people and events. There's a few games in the series, but the original is worth checking out.

-- --
88

Summoner

Sadly a very flawed game. It's story ranges from great to uninspired, it's characters are either very intriguing to boring, and the game play ranges from fun RPG to monotonous. There's no consistency. The sequel isn't much better. Great creature design and world building however.

-- --
89

KAIRO

Great atmosphere and a topic of much discussion in certain gaming circles. Short, pleasant puzzle game.

-- --
90

Tormentum - Dark Sorrow

Point and click adventure game with dark premise. Inspired by painters such as H.R. Giger and Beksinski.

-- --
91

Dark Messiah of Might and Magic

Decent first person fantasy game. Was hoping more would come of it.

-- --
92

The Norwood Suite

Interesting point and click adventure game about music. Kind of "dreamlike"

-- --
93

Shadowgrounds Survivor

Fun top down sci-fi shooter with RPG mechanics.

-- --
94

Grim Dawn

A very good Diablo clone.

--
95

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Very solid RPG, but gets monotonous.

-- --
96

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

A short "walking simulator" kind of game with a decent mystery and occult flavour.

--
97

The Banner Saga

Decent strategy game, beautifully animated.

--
98

Neverwinter Nights

Hasn't aged well, but is worth looking into. Closest you could get to playing a real live DND session with friends.

-- --
99

Haunting Starring Polterguy

A great horror themed game for Sega Genesis

-- --
100

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth

So flawed it hurts but the closest we have to a good Lovecraft game... for now.

-- --
