Fair point. But he also predicted the Pro, which has never happened before.

Now that is a real prediction right there ^^

After looking into this I don't even think this guy predicted anything relating to the Pro coming into existence and this is all being grossly taken out of context, it simply looks like he was the first analyst to say it would be coming "this year" in relation to when it released in 2016.

If you look at all of the dates talking about Neo, this was well after people had been talking about it already, he didn't predict it coming, he predicted its launch window after it was already widely known about.

We're being click-baited, also the Slim was an inevitablity, Xbox One S was on the horizon already.

@reduc_ab_: It is an upgraded Xbox One, though. Spencer has gone on record as stating that it is a premium version of Xbox One intended just to satisfy people who want better graphics and performance. That would be very different from launching a PS5 and cutting the PS4's lifecycle short prematurely (including software support).

"I call it premium because I don't want people to get confused that somehow Scorpio is the thing that is going to take over the Xbox line.... The majority of the consoles that we're going to sell are the Xbox One S and I'm very proud of that,"

It's just a console wars guise for later ammunition, so when the PlayStation 5 comes out people can be like "Microsoft's 9th generation Scorpio cannot compete with the PlayStation 5, look at how far behind it is", when in reality it's the PlayStation 4 Pro's competition and an 8th generation refresh for the Xbox One.

I'm looking for Capcom to dip into some older IP and try to reinvigorate something, I hope it happens.

That is precisely what MS has done (is attempting, rather) with the Scorpio.

No it's not, that console is not leaving the scope of the 8th generation, it's no different than the PlayStation 4 Pro it's simply a better executed piece of hardware.

Scorpio is to the Xbox One what the PlayStation 4 Pro is to the PlayStation 4.

You are honestly trying to tell me that the Scorpio is simply an upgraded XB1. You're honestly trying to say that.

Oops. I should realize. This conversation is starting to travel into territory that goes against your MS programming dictating you must never criticize the Imperium.

I'm not trying to tell you anything, that is what it is.

This thing being a more advanced piece of hardware than the PlayStation 4 Pro and much better executed has no dictation on its being, Microsoft waited, didn't rush this out the door and as a result created a better upgrade for the Xbox One than Sony did for the PlayStation 4.

It operates under the same standards and guidelines concerning the Pro and the PS4 in relation to the Xbox One.

You are DynamiteCop, aren't you?

I'm somebody, I can tell you that.

2019 would be better undoubtedly, so it might be then after all. Bottom line for me is that this mid-gen upgrade stuff going on between Sony and MS does not sit well with me. I think it's pointless. As for a slap in the face to original PS4 owners, no, I disagree. A 5 year cycle in my book is fine. A little short, but not terribly so. It's been a good gen from my perspective.

When the only reason a console manufacturer is releasing a better piece of hardware and nullifying a current generation to simply outdo something in its existing generation, that is what doesn't sit well with me.

Artificially ending the life cycle of a system to chase someone else is ridiculous.

4k is 4K.

Upscaling is not 4K, regardless of how it's doing it.

Checkerboard is not upscaling.

It's absolutely a form of it, you're creating more from a lesser base render resolution which is exactly what upscaling is, this is just another form of it, much more advanced mind you. No checkerboard rendered game is a native 4K rendered image, it takes a 1440p or 1800p render etc and then post-renders it to create its final render output.

It is not a form of upscaling at all. It renders a 4K image based on previous frames, vectors, current frame and some math. It does not take a lower resolution image and blows it up.

Here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1330505

So, it renders a 4K image based upon previous frames which are not 4K...

This sounds oddly familiar, Quantum Break familiar if you catch my drift.

Well, to be fair, it's not like I exactly disagree with you here. But mainly I'm thinking about those that bought a PS4 Pro. I didn't. And I won't. So, from my perspective, having bought a launch PS4, a PS5 coming next year would be not so bad, considering. I'm okay with a 5 year cycle. I do feel for Pro owners though. I'm assuming the PS5, incidentally, will be muuuuch more powerful than the Pro, however--and likely will crush the Scorpio specs-wise.

Even if you didn't buy the Pro it's still a slap in the face, I mean look at the timeline structuring here.

The PlayStation 4 was available for only 3 years and subsequently upgraded to the Pro, something that is supposed to be a mid-generation update or refresh. A PlayStation 5 releasing two years after that wouldn't even have allowed the Pro to be mid-generation or mature.

2018 is just too fast for this, now 2019 or 2020 sure, but imagine if Microsoft released Scorpio and did the same thing and released a successor Xbox two years later, it would be viewed as insane. Honestly that is just too fast for a market like this, the Pro itself was even kind of quick at 3 years but at least it's staying within the boundaries of being a PlayStation 4.

2019 would be better undoubtedly, so it might be then after all. Bottom line for me is that this mid-gen upgrade stuff going on between Sony and MS does not sit well with me. I think it's pointless. Confirmed here folks, all Xbox One games are 4K because of the Xbox One S' ability to upscale...

No.
