I just beat the game by myself and can say i have never died so much in a video game.Getting shot 2 times and dying one shot to take out my shields.I don't even want to play the second game even if the loot is better.

It's not impossible to reach the same thing happened to me just climb up some rocks until you are close enough to talk to him then fast travel to get him back with you.
