I don't think there is anything wrong with people playing guitar hero for fun, but I can't relate to it very well because I play guitar. Guitar hero just seems like a waste of time to me. Also being able to read sheet music has nothing to do with your ability as a guitarist.

I agree with you 100%. And you're right, you don't need to learn to read sheet music / music notation to play guitar. The list of famous guitarists who can't tell you what an "accidental" looks like on the bar is huge.

That'd be like saying, don't play CoD4 join the army instead you'll get a bigger feeling of accomplishment when you kill Iraqi women and children than just killing men in games!

I believe your logic is correct, but just listen to how dumb that sounds. Its a bad comparison.

The point of rock band and GH is to mimmick the feeling of playing guitar not to emulate.

I love the people that hate on rock band or GH and say "Get a real guitar!!"

I think the reason that a lot of people hate on Guitar Hero is that it promotes mediocrity. Yes its a fun game, but at the end of the day, you're still just waving a plastic, Fischer-Price toy in the air, being proud and boastful of your playing "skillz," but still know diddly about how to play music, or at the very least have done something worthwhile involving something more than learning how to press five colored buttons in sequence. I seriously think that, in 3-5 years, the fake instrument genre will have exhausted itself and the more mature among us will hang our heads in shame at how ridiculous we looked playing (Plastic) Guitar Hero, despite how fun it was at the time.

For some perspective: I'm a beginning guitarist, and I just learned how to play 'White Christmas,' on my Schecter (a real guitar). Its an easy song to learn, but I got more satisfaction from being able to play it than when I mastered 'Jordan' on hard difficulty.
