Kinda like the same thing they did with the PS2. They are pushing for longevity for their PS3s. Although it may not have many new features (probably none at all), at least it will be cheaper, smaller, lighter, and thinner for those who decide to be the late PS3 owners. :)
@biggest_loser It actually isn't/supposed to be an interview. Tom directly wrote an article addressing these issues to Warfighter, and at Warfighter alone. He didn't have to; Tom could have easily said "modern shooters nowadays", but he chose to point fingers at Warfigher exclusively. In this video, Greg took offence to that article and confronted Tom rightly because of that. It isn't an interview, it's a confrontation.
@biggest_loser I guess the main issue is the fact that Tom is DIRECTING it entirely to Danger Close/EA and not to shooters in general. Yes, Greg is saying authenticity, and he stands firm to that statement, but Tom is pointing the finger directly at him, and from where he's coming from, at him alone and not shooters in general. There are other shooters out there that are even more ridiculous compared to Warfighter, but it seems like Tom is blind to them. The thing that bothers me (and possibly others as well) the most is that Tom's using arguments that ALL [modern] military shooters have to answer for, and Greg is answering it on behalf of everyone (props to him).
I disagree with this article. Yes, realism is what Warfighter tries to portray and indeed market, but you can't make EVERYTHING realistic. It's possible, but not feasible AT ALL in a game. Let's say you only have one life. You play the campaign, and ten minutes in, you get shot in the head by an enemy you cannot see (yup, sadly it happens in war very often). Game over, GG, thanks for the $60. Now you cannot complete the campaign because you're "dead". You may say, "Well, you can just start all the way from the beginning, having to replay everything once you died," but the problem with that argument is that you ALREADY died. Same goes with multiplayer. Sure, you can make it like Counter-Strike where you only have one life per round, limited health, and 1-2 well-placed rounds to kill, BUT THAT'S COUNTER-STRIKE! Don't expect Warfighter to fulfill EVERY "realistic requirements". If it's that realism you're aiming for, make a game with trenches where attrition kills more than bullets because NO ONE will want to cross "no-man's land" to get their player killed forever. Play something else if it bothers you that much. A game is made for you to have fun, enjoy your free time, and yes, escape from the world, not to sympathize a modern issue/conflict (although it's possible, it's not the objective). If you play a game for that.... watch a documentary instead.
Very interesting article. I really respect the soldiers overseas as they are facing an enemy we don't ever want to face in our lifetime. They are risking their lives because they love those who they are protecting. As much as I like to play Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3, I know that it is a game. However, I don't play it too often because I always think that if I was ACTUALLY there, I wouldn't do what I am doing in the game. Just my opinion!
