I agree completely. The one benefit I can think of for having religion around is that it can shape people into upstanding, compassionate, and moral human beings. This said, however, I've come across many deeply-religious people who treat it too literally and "miss the point," as they do/say things in the name of God that God himself would not be capable.
A problem I have particularly with Christianity is the practice of shoving their religion down other people's throats. I've never been pressured, obligated, or compelled to adopt a faith by people of any other religion in the world. Many of them do not seem to comprehend that goodness in this world is not and does not have to be exclusively Christian. The entire world does not have to fit THEIR ideal to be prosperous and harmonic. Anyway, if God is what they claim him to be, you don't have to be a Christian to go to heaven if it's there.
