I guess I'll be going for the 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance CL9 sticks. I've looked at some benchmarks aswell. Seems like the difference between the different types of ram isn't that big, although I'll agreee dual channel is a must.

I'm finally upgrading my old Q6600. I've decided to go Sandy Bridge, and I've got a motherboard and a CPU picked out already (title). I plan to overclock it later down the road when i need the extra speed (should be fine for a while though, since I've got a 5870 to power 3 screens in Eyefinity).
The only thing I'm really not sure about yet is the RAM. I'm eyeing this stuff:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233141(Corsair Vengeance CL9). The reason this caught my eye was the price. IDK how it is on newegg, but in Norway I can get this cheaper than most other stuff. Is the RAM important on Sandy Bridge? Should I not cheap out on it, or are these decent?
What makes me hesitate is that's what I thought when I got my 5870. Then Eyefinity happened :PWell, why don't you look at it this way: The i5 2500K is an excellent CPU. You're pondering what to wish for Bday present. Meaning you ain't spending money on it (at least not full price). Why wait? The 2500K will serve you for a long time.

[QUOTE="matte3560"]Off topic but holy crap. Those are some insane upload speeds. Yeah, we finally got the fiber hooked up in my street. I'm coming from a 2mbit connection :PWhen i read "benchmark" in the title i was kinda expecting some actual performance numbers, not a core frequency. Crazy overclock though :P

So I've got my birthday coming up, and I've no idea what to wish for. Getting cash is pretty boring though, so I figured I'd wish for computer upgrades instead. I've heard and read lots of good things about the Sandy Bridge CPUs, and my old Q6600 is really getting a run for it's money these days (even while clocked at 3.4 GHz and supporting a single 5870 powering 3 displays).
I figure a GPU upgrade would be nice, but maybe I can get something for christmas aswell :P Crossfire probably won't benefit me much with that CPU anyway, and there aren't any single cards that power Eyefinity/Surround really well yet (CF/SLI would require a PSU upgrade).
Anyway, to the point. With the Bulldozer chips coming out and all, do you think i should hold off? I've heard performance is close, if not better, and that the pricing is lower.

Ï think this actually has something to do with the way ATI does memory management. You can see pretty much across the board that ATI cards experience bigger FPS fluctuations than Nvidia cards.
Isn't this exactly like current hybrid drives? Didn't read the article, but it sounds like they've got an SSD and a mechanical drive paired up for faster access to files you use a lot. That's not really news.
This was it for me, although there might have been a speedstep setting aswell. I can't quite recall, but the C1E setting definitely has to be enabled. Its might be called "C1E"

lol Yeah nevermind that last bit, I read that from somewhere... Anyway I'm typing this from my semi-new build so everything got figured out with a little trial and erroristuffedsunnyAllright, sounds good :P What was the issue anyway?
