DX11 actually adds and changes a LOT of things, a ton more memory usage and a lot of new controls for data moving back and forth through the Northbridge. I haven't had any problems with any Autodesk software on Vista, but I guess that depends on the versions. I haven't tried anything older than Max 8 or Maya 7 on Vista. I'm not about to go install my old version of 3DS Max 3.1 to check it out, though :P
dfk4eva -- I run Photoshop CS4, two instances of 3D Studio Max 2009 64 bit and ZBrush 3.5 split between two monitors or alternatively I play games like Crysis on absolute maximum settings at 1920x1200 on Vista Ultimate 64 and I have no performance troubles.. Maybe it's your machines resources? I find that for what I do, Vista is absolutely excellent with the resource management and data fetching and caching and it behaves exceptionally well with my hardware.
8GB DDR2, Kentsfield Q6600 Quad Core, 1.7TB of HDD, and two 8800GT in SLI... it was expensive but damn am I happy! :) You guys should be just fine though, its tough to get this game to look good on ANY machine but if you tweak around you can get it just right :)
Halo 3's only graphical fault is it's lack of post-effects like stronger HDR and adaptive motion blur. Also, the human player models aren't that great, they're Halo 2.5 if anything. Everything else in the game is incredible, though.
i forgot my specs: Intel Kentsfield Q6600 Quad Core 2.4Ghz 4MB L2 Cache 8GB OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 800MHZ Dual Channel RAM 2x 768MB XFX GeForce 8800 Ultra XXX in SLI 2TB of HDD (2x500, 1x 750 GB, 1x 250GB) SATA 24" widescreen Samsung 3000:1 monitor 5.1 Creative Labs surround sound system It cost me a FORTUNE, but it was a joy to build and was well worth the time and money and hard work I put in to it :D EDIT: huh? someone DOWNVOTED a post about my computer specs? wtf? jealous much or something? what the hell is wrong with you guys..
