I belive a comic book fan can't claimed be one if they aren't well read in the comic universe You maybe a hardcore DC but you can still read Marvel. All comic book fan should read at lest three books from the two Factions (including one team Book). My choices are: For DC Superman (b/c it  a Classic) Batman (b/c batman rules) GL (He is as cool as batman) and JL for my Team book. For Marvel Spiderman (If you read marvel you have to read Spiderman) Deadpool (funny and violent) and Xmen (Marvels greatest Book).
