I got my first emergency room stitches on Friday. I was taking out the trash (right hand) and recycling (left hand) and I tripped- or more accurately, I wasn't paying attention and accidentally stepped off the edge of our raised brick sidewalk in the dark. Unfortunately, my left hand landed right on top of some broken glass from the recycling bag that I had dropped. I had five tiny glass cuts and one big one. I got three stitches and one tetanus shot, and they bandaged up my hand pretty good. My students have been great, voluntarily doing the work moving chairs and stands and such. My son was a real trooper and didn't panic when I had blood running down my arm-- he just helped me get some sterile dressing and wrap it up. I guess that's why he's such a good Cub Scout. :) I also impressed a lot of people by still playing piano for my son's church choir on Sunday. If I had gotten the cut a little higher on my hand, though, I wouldn't have been able to.
