Hold on - they refer to themselves as the 'creators'? I think that may be going a tad far... Especially considering the 'Hold the door' thing was George RR Martin's idea. Although having seen interviews with these guys before, they do seem to be a little bit up their own a** and self-important.
@malowski3: Wait - Did I say there weren't a lot of nations involved? My point was that the fighting was done almost exclusively in Europe (in the trenches), with a few fleet battles happening in assorted other areas, like off the coast of Argentina, randomly.
Take the Central Powers, for example. Name me one country whose homeland lay outside the European continent. Nope. Turkey is as far away as it gets.
The Allied Powers? Sure, there were many international countries... but.. you know... they tended to be a part of that thing called the British Empire (which, by the way, had its homeland in Europe).
@Willy105: I think you might be confusing that with WWII... Sure, the countries involved had empires all around the world, but the vast, vast majority of the fighting was in France and the Eastern front until the Bolshevik revolution. Sure, there was some in Turkey and other nearby regions, but it was also done in trenches.
There was little to zero fighting in other parts of the world. No Asian countries were involved, or South American. North Africa is famous for its WWII involvement. Anyway, I think you get the point.
@yogibbear: Eh? Did you read the article? Do you think EA only committed to this after the trailer or something?
He rejected it initially as he believed trench warfare would be boring, and he would be right. But clearly DICE convinced him there were other ways to open it up and showcase other elements of the war.
Would you play a Battlefield where you could never leave the trench? I f**king bet you wouldn't.
@sdecker425: I didn't realise what it was until about 2013 or so, and I've played games since 1995. The simple truth is, the genre never interested me so i never did any sort of research into it or others like it. And I'm a gamer! I know people who don't even know what GTA is, so if you expect everyone to know what an MMO is, you're being a tad over-optimistic... especially for anyone over 30.
@stevenkcarll: Are you actually serious, though? I mean, come on... how many good/decent actors out there do you imagine play WoW? Can you imagine Viggo Mortensen sitting down to play a 10 hour marathon of an MMO?
The film being close to the game, or whatever you want, has absolutely zilch to do with the actor, that's entirely in the hands of the director, writers and producers, as well as assorted other people. The actor comes in and does their lines in the way it's explained to them. Now - Michael Fassbender did play the game after he got the job, in order to see how the characters moved when in combat, for example... but what are you going to learn by playing WoW that you couldn't learn from a script?
You really need to think about what you're saying.
@megakoresh: So they destroyed the franchise which they own and developed and which you have absolutely zero say in whatsoever. Who the f**k cares? Just because you bought them (or perhaps you're a pirate) doesn't mean you have a right to its future direction or anything at all. It's their game. You merely buy it if you want it, and guess what? Don't want it? Then don't buy it.
Yet another gamer who thinks they're entitled to "my game" and "my franchise".
@nurnberg: Ah christ.. Mr Smart is back again. Do you realise how annoying people with mental instabilities are? When SC is eventually released, will you finally succumb and just book yourself into an asylum? Please do the rest of the sane world a favour...
