vista was pretty much made for people who want to play xbox360 games without the xbox360. microsoft will do the game system conversions to buy the games for pc. they will. my advice is to wait a year at least before you squander your money on something you only know the good aspects of. notice how no one in the media says about the restricions. and game wise, since old games are as they are, directx10 won't make a lick of differece. you can wait and see that in about 3 years, xp will be nearly gone and vista will take over, but it'll be debugged some and probably more versions will be made too, with more features and the like. myself, i'm still getting along fine on windows 98se, and i still got about 2 years left before i trade it in for anything else, and even then i'll probably keep it. it's a hunk of junk for the most part, but i know it's quirks and how to deal with them. something vista owners don't know just yet, and they'll learn the hard way
