[QUOTE="CellAnimation"]Internet speeds/pricing are over exaggerated here due to the lack of a real Internet backbone. Seriously though most home users have access to high speed cable (30Mb+ down) or ADSL2+ (24Mb down). Upload speed and dedicated servers have never really been part of the home user landscape. You can also blame companies like Telstra for starting this trend of charging by the MB. :) Like everything though you have to work within the constraints of your own environment and if you don't like it go somewhere else. For example my internet cap is 150GB, but I get access to massive amounts of stuff uncapped (including Steam). I'm not about to advertise the company name but I downloaded over 380GB last cycle and didn't even break the cap. My advice as mentioned above is SHOP AROUND. edit: fixing some typos

Well said, but sadly enough there are people who are either not savvy enough or unaware of the opportunity's that are out there. Like you said, that Telstra is simply r4ging on cost per mb. I wonder what their profit was for 2009 last quater. Also noted what you pointed and couldn't agree with you more, the structure within the au is geared to a more home orientated mbps rather than upgrading their network to handle the high volume that would surely result in the destruction of Telstra. Then again they seem to have a monopoly on it all, but as you said, there's more than one way to skin a cat. (Figure of speech, plz no r4ging that i hate animals) edit: syntax

[QUOTE="mijfg"]You gotta admit though, the prices regarding dedi servers and unlimited bandwidth to a pure 100 up link is similar to a house loan. CellAnimation
Honestly I don't see the point of your post. Yes it's expensive to have someone host a dedicated server for you with a 100 Mb uplink. But guess what? That'd be expensive anywhere, and once again if it's cheaper you can always host off shore.

Was merely pointing out that the prices are somewhat over exaggerated in the au, perhaps it has to do with the distance or the level of cable line connecting to the u.s., asia, and europe. I mean, they are considered slightly stone age but that is the price to pay when moron's are in charge of telecommunications. As for offshore placement, totally agree, i run several as we speak, have no issue with the price range especially if you consider central europe and renting square meters within the data-center instead of rack space is an obvious move to go providing you have sufficient clients to cover the basics. As you pointed out to the earlier poster, there are many ways to find cheap games instead of blindly paying some insane price over the counter. People just need to open their eyes and seek just that extra little bit.

[QUOTE="CellAnimation"]I'm a gamer in Australia and I never buy locally if it's available cheaper, this includes Steam. There are ways to purchase from other Steam stores, I'm not about to tell you how but GIYF. I also import my console games, my movies, my music including iTunes (just like Steam there are ways to have iTunes accounts from other countries). As for your complaints about internet once again that is your choice. There are plenty of providers out there that offer HUGE caps in Australia. IMHO complaining about this stuff is silly. You just need to say hell no and show your dis-respect by buying elsewhere.

You gotta admit though, the prices regarding dedi servers and unlimited bandwidth to a pure 100 up link is similar to a house loan.

blame that damn hillsong church... they run everything in sydney

xeekthecatx
lol..every time the church is involved in something it makes out that games are the result of violence. I guess no one bothered to point them to the direction of what politicians are passing as international law. "Okay lets go bomb this county because they may have weapons of mass destruction within the next 20 years"

GSP ( Game Server Providers) I have noticed a steady hype regarding the locking down of games so that no server files can be obtained and hosted by other gsp's. The fact of the matter is that many of these gsp's have an established network which rivals many of these so called locked down networks. Lets not forget that inability of not allowing to mod a game is simply stupidity at its finest. In any case, not being able to server tweak the game to its maximum is what i tend to call sheeple for the slaughter.

You don't have any buddy outside the au who you could trust and is willing to simply buy and mail to you. I mean that 90$ is simply insane.
