Umm... No. Gearbox is also responsible for Half-Life: Opposing Force (arguably better then HL itself) and the Brothers in Arms -series. I realize you COD-addicted youngsters have a limited attention span, but I'd read up a bit on history before assuming anything. Gearbox may be going down the tubes at a fantastical speed, but that doesn't negate their previous successes.
In all honesty though, he does have a point. In a perfect world, the developer would be in charge of the product, but as it just so happens, this isn't the case in today's profit-driven gaming industry, Publishers are notorious for butting in, to the point where it's impossible to distinguish whose bone-headed moves are to blame for a game sucking, the dev or the publisher.
Yes, Jaffe is crazy. Gameplay has not suffered because of story, but rather, because of graphics. Most AAA titles today have sub-standard storytelling, but most, if not all, sport a 10+ million dollar budget for graphics and marketing.
