you know whats funny we don't have to defend are selfs it's a common known fact that we produce better graphics gameplay and controls. i'll give you 10,000 dollars if you can beat a PC gamer on a KB/M using your 360 or PS3 controller. In a FPSNolan16

Its not a common known fact you have better gameplay. Its your opinion.

Piracy is also an issue on consoles. If you go to places like Thailand you can only buy pirated games.

To me, the defination of a hardcore gamer, not "TeH HarDCoReZ" is a gamer who usually own more than one console, player all sorts of games wither its hardcore or casual and love both genres. If there are game types that they don't like, they give their opinon in a pleasant way without bashing like, "TeH MarRiO is TeH KiDdIE-Ga, It's TeH CaSuAL-nalaga! I Hata NiTenDa!!!! It's TeH SuX-Ga!" They usually back up their facts with good data rather passing off their opinions as "Facts". The stuff you mentioned Chimp, is NOT TeH HarDCoRz. It's the defination of a fanboy! StryderK

who thinks he's hardcore...

Expensive? Ok. If you say so. People get bored with their wiis. That's why they own other consoles. People buy wiis because everyone else is. It's a trend. Also, it's a good toy for kids under the age of 5.

Mmm...Yummy damage control.

Yes, 250 dollars is expensive, people don't go around spending that much money willy nilly.

Most people own more than two consoles. One console is almost never enough, it has nothing to do with the Wii being "boring."

It's a "trend," huh? I'm sure you said that back in the beginning of 2007.

All consoles are toys.

This is why I have a problem with the Wii, the Wii fanboys, Nintendo's vision for gaming, and the whole casual gaming revolution in general.

Consoles are not toys. They can be used as toys, just as your DVD player can be used to play Barney to keep your kid happy.

Consoles do not have to be regulated to the toy-box. Games have progressed beyond the point of being a pass-time, or a pick up and play party gimmick. Modern video games are a legitimate entertainment avenue for adults, and the best ones rival if not surpass modern movies, books, and TV for content, quality and value.

I'm so tired of arguing this point with people that just want to stay in the past, and defend the Wii. You have to understand that what Nintendo is doing is actually moving the industry backwards, not forwards, and the only thing benefiting from Nintendo's new strategy is not gamers, or the public, it's Nintendo's pocketbook.

I hear Viva Pinata and Little Big Planet are real mature titles with excellent stories and entertainment that surpass modern movies, books, and TV for content, quality and value. Heck, video games were never casualized before the Wii. If a platform such as the PC happened to come out with casual games that attracted millions of users, it would be bad for the gaming industry and the whole universe would collapse.

Good job in completely ignoring the core argument of the message and using fringe games as a means to defend your idea.

You are obviously a gamer, or else you would not be posting on this forum. You are also quick to defend the Wii, and use the PC as a back-up plan for excusing low quality games that sell to masses.

I only have one question for you. Do you really think that the Wii does anything to advance gaming as an entertainment medium?

I say it most certainly does not. Its a step backward from the direction that the industry as a whole should be moving in order to sustain itself. As technology improves, video games have to become a mainstream entertainment source for adults to remain profitable. The dev's want to make intelligent, movie quality games, and gamers want to play them. The sales of games like GTAIV, Assassins Creed, and Halo 3 show this. But if the industry closes itself off again, back into the little corner of being a "toy" for kids, or a simple diversion, or quick party pass-time, then the industry is never going to truly move into the mainstream and compete for dollars among all demographics the way Film and Music does.

Yes, a very small number of Nintendo first party games sell well, and the Wii itself sells like hotcakes. But you have to ask, who's buying, and why? I would say that people buying the Wii, mostly new users, come in with pre-conceived ideas of games being simple pass-times, for kids, and low value entertainment. I would say that by buying the Wii, they reinforce the idea that they have. The Wii does nothing to showcase new ideas in gaming, only new ways to experience the old ideas. Its more of the same, in a more modern way. Its interesting enough to intrigue people for a while, but not to keep people interested in the long term.

I will say again, gaming has to evolve to continue to be viable, and has to have the complexity, and the diversity of the film industry to survive. That means that it has to have games like Viva Pinanta, but also games like GTA4. It has to be a viable entertainment medium for adults first, and have quality kid friendly and casual games second.

how is it moving the industry backwards if its getting more people to enjoy videogames? And how come its all about adults? why are adults so much more important than kids and casuals?

Yeah, who cares if the game has no worthwhile plot; who cares if the game has shallow gameplay; who truly cares if the sound design along with graphics are mediocre; who honestly cares if the game has little to no replay value at all; seriously, who cares? Oh wait, I do. :|

Stevo_the_gamer

I don't remember him saying that. Where did you get that from:?
