Hey, I'll probably be picking up a Ps3 sometime in June and i was wondering how can you keep your playstation 3 in shape? ( not that it's a living being or anything lol, hopefully you get what i mean). For example I hear xbox 360's tend to heat up. To try and prevent this you keep it some place with lots of ventilation. Should the same be done with a Ps3? How would you go about cleaning dust from inside ? How many times should you clean it a month?

I just want to make sure I have an idea of maintaining it before i buy it.

Some thing that has been picking at me is that Microsoft is said to release ANOTHER motherboard this fall. Its called the Valhalla i believe and it's supposed to be even beter then the Jasper. I think it comebines the GPU and CPU together on one motherboard ( im not too sure i forgot but you can search it) and that way it takes less space, meaning that it will only need 1 fan, and it , will use less energy, Also if this is done they can change the design of the xbox ( im not sure if there going to). We could also see price drops because if the CPU and GPU (what ever it was) were combined together on 1...thing.. then it would cost less for them to manufacture. and then if they were nice, they could lower the price.

You still need your disc drive to work to play games from your HDD. Or else people would just rent games for like 5 bucks then , store them on thier consoles..

*sigh* I used to do that on my xbox (original) but then i accidently bricked it :(

RROD can not be 100 % fixed but it can be brought down to like 3 % ( which is where the average of electornics stand). Since the Jasper uses energy and supposedly spread heats better things should be looking good. Especially with the NXE update which lets you run store and run games from your HDD instead of the disk. There is going to be less noise, less heat, and less need for the fan. The games also load even faster! So the Jasper with the NXE update is pretty much "rrod proof". The only problem though is that people might have to upgrade they're HDD's so that they can store all or most of their games. The 60 gb xbox ( which only is about 48 gb that you can use) can only store about 8 games and nothing else. ( thats if games are 6 gb each).

Microsoft might come up with a converter/ trimmer though to make game sizes smaller..

I don't know much about this sort of thing, but will playing games off my hard drive via NXE also help avert RROD? I have one of the original Pro SKU's with old chipset and I'm going on my 9th month with it, so that's really the only hope I have of it never dying on me (I plan on upgrading to a 120GB HDD fairly soon, so I'll have more than enough space to do this).creepy_mike

If you happen to get the RRoD, when you send it in i think they'll send you back a Jasper console (it only makes sense doesn't it?). The Jasper consoles are said to be really good but they can't find an accurate failure rate yet because they have been out for too long but from clips on youtube you can see the difference. I was pretty glad to to know that microsoft came out with the NXE update so that you can store and run games off your xbox hdd. It makes an incredible difference in noise, and how much heat is created. Also load times are quicker when your loading from the HDD then the actuall disk.

Microsoft might have to come out with larger HDD if that's what they want to do to prevent over heating issues.

So in all i'd buy a Jasper and then put games ( the one that make the most noise , or the ones im addicted to =P ) onto the hard drive. Play and your good for a looong time.
