Finally, games worth buying have come out of hiding!

I have read many articles on how the video game industry in North America has gone down dramatically lately. Perhaps I could shine some light on the subject... It's not the market, it's the game line-up. I will say graphics catch my initial attention but that is short lived if game-play does not increase or at least hold onto that attention. I was excited about the next Prince of Persia series, and then they came out with the cartoon graphics. (Really!!!) I had my eye on several FPS, but I can't think of a recent one worth playing without the F word in it. (can you?) Whoever is being polled (if anyone) to determine what kind of games should be made, or adjustments needed, may be coming out of the bottom of the barrel. It seems there has not been very many recent games that have come out meriting a second look. Killzone 2, Resident evil and maybe another title I'm forgetting seem to be the only games I haven't found completely dry. I must admit the strong language may have even ruined those. (I play with my wife watching or children close by who shouldn't have to hear that, I may have another post on that later) Upcoming titles such as Assassins Creed 2, Fight Night 4, Infamous, Prototype, UFC and others seem to finally be using the next gen systems. I guess time will tell. When I purchased Fight Night 3 (great game btw) I hadn't made a console change, it was on the PS2. I didn't really see a need at that time for the jump. I even played it on PS3 and Xbox360 systems the change was minute. I got the Xbox360 when Assassins Creed came out and the game was amazing minus the repetition and lack of weapons. (fixed in AC2) The 360, however had the three rings of death new out of the box. So then I made the jump to the PS3 with MGS4 and I have enjoyed it ever since. Lastly, to anyone who has read this post. I am curious to know if I am alone in thinking almost any genre of game would be better by making it a true "open world" game. Of course sports games, etc. are exceptions but action, adventure, FPS, strategy, ... Why not be able to go anywhere? Also, having things that reward exploration... Anyway, let me know what you think. regards,
