Monster creation games... I've had a few vague ideas for what I would want in one but the only games I've seen that even seem vaguely similar to what I've thought of are flash based and really pretty far from the Mark.

This one isn't bad but not near the scale I've wanted:Pixel Monsters

So I found another one that seems kind of interesting (flash again) but obviously still too shallow for what I would want:Monster Evolution

And a few more:

kind of interesting (flash again) but obviously still too shallow for what I would want:Monster Evolution

still limited in scope but interesting:Freaky Creatures(this one is MMO)

just breeding:Monster Breeding(... sounds more up your alley)

coming from a console/handheld gamer, i dont like pc gaming for a few reasons but when i do its usually because its a older game. any good games that arent on the consoles that doesnt involve: diablo, WoW, Counterstrike, starcraft or flash based games?

i have:moto gp 2(xp doesnt work with it) who wants to be a millionare(same as moto) monopoly, sims deluxe edition, counterstrike, chex quest, halo devolved, pocket tanks, scorched earth(MS DOS), illegal street racing(doesnt work) and a few demos of popular casual games.

Heh, there are thousands upon thousands of quality PC games to play that, literally, can last you for the rest of your life, without the need to buy a standard gaming rig. if you don't have interest in newer games.

I'll categorize the list i highly recommend, the games i hold as perfection 5/5, so it'll be easier to know what the genre of each is, you can run everything here:

RPG:

  • Arx Fatalis (first person RPG/2002)
  • Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura (izometric RPG/2001)
  • Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (first person RPG/2004)
  • Divine Divinity (izometric RPG/2001)
  • Gothic 2: Gold (3rd person RPG/2003)
  • Might & Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven (first person RPG/1998 )
  • Fallout 2 (izometric RPG/1998 )
  • Wizardry 8 (first person RPG/2001)
  • Deus Ex (first person RPG-Stealth/2000)
  • Temple of Elemental Evil (izometric RPG, the perfect representation of DnD/2003)

FPS:

  • No One Lives Forever (2001)
  • No One Lives Forever 2 (2003)
  • Doom (use Skulltag - which is a source port for improved visuals and full mouse look & the HD textures)
  • Unreal (1998 )
  • Far Cry (basically Crysis 0.5/2004)
  • Rainbow Six: Raven Shield (2003)
  • Serious Sam: The First Encounter (2001)
  • Serious Sam: The Second Encounter (2002)
  • Duke Nukem 3D (use Duke32, a magnificient source port)
  • Unreal Tournament GOTY (still has hundreats of players and thousands of servers online, a must)
  • Quake II (1997)
  • Aliens vs. Predator 2 (2001)
  • Half Life: Opposing Force (superior to the original/1999)

Turn Based Strategy (and RPG/Strategy hybrids):

  • Heroes of Might & Magic III Complete (1999)
  • Civilization III: Complete Edition (2001)
  • Jagged Alliance 2: Gold Edition (1999)
  • Disciples 2: Gold Edition (2005 - don't worry, it was first released in 2002, this edition contains all expansions, it can run on any computer)
  • Age of Wonder 2: Shadow Magic (2003)
  • Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (1999)
  • Master of Orion 2: Battle at Antares (1995)
  • Worms: Armageddon (one of the best local multiplayer PC games ever created/1999)

RTS:

  • Age of Empires II (1999)
  • Empire Earth (2001)
  • Homeworld (1999)
  • Homeworld 2 (2003)
  • Age of Mythology (2002)
  • Dungeon Keeper 2 (1999)
  • Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 (2000)
  • Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun (1999)
  • Total Anihilation (1997)
  • Rise of Nations: Gold Edition (2003)
  • Empires: Dawn of The Modern World (2003)

This is a great list, the PC is actually my favorite gaming platform, both for old and new games.

Here are some more I would recommend, the following games are PC exclusives:

  • Battlefield 1942
  • Battlefield 2
  • Medieval II: Total War
  • Tyrian 2000 (freeware, get it from GOG.com)
  • Age of Empires III (not as good as the second, but still great)
  • Raptor: Call of the Shadows
  • SWAT 4
  • Command & Conquer: Generals
  • Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
  • F1 Challenge '99-'02
  • RollerCoaster Tycoon 2
  • SimCity 3000 Unlimited
  • SimCity 4
  • Thief Gold

The following games also have console versions, but are better on the PC:

  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
  • Half-Life (the original, I haven't played the expansions yet)
  • TOCA Race Driver 3
  • Star Wars: Battlefront II
  • Max Payne
  • The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - GOTY Edition
  • Painkiller

Very nice lists.
I sometimes like to go even older here is a good one:http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/374/Syndicate+Wars.html
real time squad based strategy/rpg (rtsbsr?)

And this one was a very well done RPG for it's time:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeon_Master_(video_game)
