just some further thoughts...

i really dont get why this stuff hasnt evolved more by now.

e.g. for a racing game: join a server, do your warm up laps and have the race start when enough ppl have joined/finished. pit stop or break for tuning. no sense in sitting in a lobby waiting for the last race to finish or til 21/21 ppl finally joined.

e.g. for a shooter have ppl who were terminated for the main round keep on playing optional DM until the next round starts.

complete down time in lobbies, waiting for connection processes etc. should be avoided and could be handled in the background easily. give the ppl option to spectate, do interim games, minigames, breaks for adjusting their settings etc.

@msz2021:

just wanted to throw in:

(6) Any information about the current Moto GP population in MP?

(7) I played Soul Calibur 6 on PC but MM was awful and took ages. How is the state on X?

(8) got me a headset too but ppl didnt really talk much in the aforementioned games. which titles are making good use of communication?

hi, i recently got my series x thanks to recommendations here; in combination with an LG OLED CX; and am really loving it. last console i had was a x360.

so i got the gamepassultimate for 36 months (hell of a deal, especially when buying live and upgrading it to ultimate to save money) and quickly tested the multiplayer for some games but am rather disappointed in this regard; ill just ramble on with my impressions (might be misunderstandings on my part, if so im sorry) and some questions:

halo master chief edition/collection: there just seems to be a limited selection of online game modes, not really sorted by the original games with a wierd "quickplay"style matchmaking process letting me only find games when looking for "anything". (1) GMU has also Halo 5, can you tell me whether this is where the halo multiplayer is at right now numberwise? im also waiting for halo infinite i guess this one will be full of ppl then.

forza MS 7: while MP is spread out across a vast selection of very specific modes it seems to work like half of the time or half of the modes for me. i couldnt do the 101 or 102 series for hours because it kept disconnecting or no oppenents were found, but later i found games with ease there. waiting time between races is a bit too long and most of the time there only seem to be 3 laps but there seems to be quite some ppl playing so its like a 4/10 MP or so if i had to rate it. (2) i need my online (semi)sim racing fix and thought F7 was the way to go til like... 8 comes out; can you tell me whether assetto corsa is better regarding MP mode? any other sim racer out right now or coming up soon?

forza horizon 4: after and before each multiplayer race it locks me into a "transporting players" loading screen for 5+ minutes. after reading up on this its a problem which has been around for many people since the steamversion came out...? (3) How can this be... FH4 seems to be a flagship right now?

battlefield v: the only "professional" mp i found so far, its showing me a real list with many populated servers, low latency (in real numbers). ofc every game has its pros and cons but on a technical level this one is done alright. (4) are there any other FPS (i prefer tactical ones) on GMU or otherwise you would recommend in this regard? i guess Rainbow Six Siege could be healthy right now? How about Doom MP? are older battlefields even better populated?

gears 5: again a weird matchmaking process, letting me wait for a long time before a game is found. considering most of their DLC are online skins etc. this confuses me...

(5) What are your recommendation when looking for MP games worth buying/training/investing DLC$ for on live? Which titles are you waiting for regarding live? My thought process regarding my daily play list :D was 1 shooter 1 racer 1 fighter (how do these play out latencywise etc.) and 1-2 singleplayer games i go through on GPU. is there something like on steam where one can check online player numbers before getting the game, so it hasnt to be found out the hard way?

what i absolutly hate is a) not showing real connection quality information b) how many ppl are playing the game overall c) quickmatch MM only, hiding number of servers and players. i was unhappy to see so many of these elements within the first games i checked........

thank you for your thoughts!

hi,

excuse the broad formulation but thats just what it is atm.

i return to gaming after ~7 years off and plan to get a new system this summer.

unsure on which; since many of you are heavily involved id like to hear your thoughts on my situation:

i usually leaned more towards PC (modability and controls) and money is no issue but i spent/d so endless much time slaving away for the man on a desktop that console +tv seems a more and more vaild alternative. After all most titles are available on all plattforms by now...

the idea to return came up when watching some recommended Arma III videos on youtube. i actually checked out Arma II this week (with horrible framerate due to my old hardware). But since even A-III is rather dated by now im kind of unsure about building a new PC for such an old game. i didnt find any upcoming mil-sims in this scale, games like battlefield feel too fast paced / restriced in terms of mapspace to me. furthermore i could play these on console in a good quality by now (unsure on how i could get used to do shooting with a controller but i think its manageable for the itch).

are there any upcoming games in this genre which are more on the slow paced / sandbox side and are more or less sure to be a hit? i guess one should rather do PC for them.

other sandbox games id be interested in would be the upcoming elder scrolls or the RDRedemptions / Ghost of Tsomething ones i missed. i think im done with modding though, i finally noticed that time is no infinite ressource.

im also interested in baldurs gate 3, but unsure about the genre since its a REAL time sink. even "worse": MMORPG: i checked but the hype regarding this genre has slowed down a lot by now as far as i can see. are there any major ones upcoming?

same with fighting games. tekken and SF are great but i dont think i could put in the major work to become fit for multiplayer in these highly competetive field by now and it also has a kind of "been there done that" kind of feeling since their evolution seems to be quite complete by now (not that i ever have gotten really good but i did put my time in).

also did a lot of driving sims back then.

so i feel really torn between becoming more of a causual type of gamer or concentrating on a single target, which should be some real nice shooter or massive rpg.

not sure what would be the right way to rekindle my interest (im 41 by now).

back then it was much easier to pick since there were way less options and many titles were sure to be well populated for years to come.

thank you for your thoughts.
