The metal gear series have some of the greatest boss battles ever

Except MGS4, which was absolute shit by comparison.

MGS4 had great boss battles imo. Laughing Octopus was one of my favorites in the series. The only Metal Gear I would say didnt have as good boss battles is 5

I couldn't really think of memorable boss battles in games then I saw the talk of Metal Gear Solid. MGS4 was my first entry in the series and I thought the beauty and the beast fights were really good (and Vamp), especially the one where you're on like the 20th floor of a building with one of them circling the building looking for you. And of course that last battle with Liquid, even without playing the others I caught some feels in that fight.

The beauty group was probably a rip off of the group from MGS3 but I thought they were pretty good and imo mgs4 had the best fights of 2,3, and 4. (the ones I've played)

Action games and the like appeal to a much larger audience than turn based games imo, game publishers are interested in making money and they know the only way to do that is to sell the game to as many people as possible. If I told my friend that the square button hits than it is a lot easier to comprehend and grasp than giving them a menu of commands.

I don't think that the system is necessarily outdated as many rpgs still use it, but I think to appeal to a wider audience developers are changing the way games play. Turn based may work for established franchises with a strong base (Persona) or on indies have more creative freedom in how the game is played.

@sennexer: Well the Tuesday system does have its flaws but it also means you only really have to check the store for any updates on Tuesdays, as that is usually the day the weekly sales go live and usually (in my case) when games are released. The only exception I can think of is the "flash sales" they have once in a while that you have to keep an eye out for and the games that don't release on Tuesday (some like to come out on Friday like I think this years Call of Duty).

Hope you enjoy your playstation bro! I know the system is a little weird sometimes but try to have fun!

I only started at Call of Duty 4 and haven't played all of them since that but I would say that the series probably had a shift in tone. I think the earlier ones were grittier and obviously more story driven (I think they didn't have a online component but I'm not 100% sure). The new ones have surely been affected by the rise of things like MLG and online gameplay.

It's such a big game now that it tries to appeal to as many people as possible and along the way alienates some older fans. The campaign is a hollywood blockbuster now and many people I know now only play it for zombies.

I wouldn't say it went downhill, but it changed, for better or worse.

It would be interesting to see how people would react to a new one designed the old ways.

Video games are supposed to be fun,

If you're stressing out to find two hearts in Zelda then imo you're doing it wrong (unless you find it fun, nothing wrong with that). There's only so much time in a day that can be better spent than scouring the whole map for an extra item.

Zelda's not a competitive game so its not like you're gaining an unfair advantage over someone. Just maximizing the joy you get from the game.

I don't know what games you have played so I'm going to write all the ones I can think of:

  • The Last of Us (I think everyone should play it if they can)
  • Bioshock Infinite (I liked it better than the first two)
  • Tales From the Borderlands (Its a telltale game, really funny and overall good, don't need to know much about borderlands to play.)
  • Uncharted 2 (I haven't finished the others)
  • Red Dead Redemption
  • Batman Arkham Asylum and City (I haven't played the new one)

Then there are some that are harder to recommend because I haven't played them or they are hard to get into

Haven't played but know they are story driven

  • Life Is Strange
  • Until Dawn
  • Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

Then finally there is the Metal Gear Solid series, it is known for it's long cutscenes and is really complex (MGSV not as much story as the others though). It is really hard and a lot of the gameplay is outdated but the story is good in my opinion.

The Ps Plus games for each month usually go live on the first Tuesday of that month (So the games for January will be available on the 5th).
