Big Events

My GF and I attending the San Francisco Dia de los Muertos festival on November 2nd. It was both crazy surreal and oddly peacefully spiritual. I'll have to post some pics.

And we are going to see Pucifer tonight! I'll have to get some pics of that as well. Sounds like it's going to be an awesome show.

All Hallow's Eve

Nightfall decends upon the land, the moon drawing high. Mother nature has drawn her curtains on All Hallow's Eve. The unnatural fog unfurls across plain, forest and town, shrouding neighbor and stranger alike in a bluring world of misty nightmares and muffled screams that tear through the night drawn out by tappings at the glass window; bumps in the night; and boogey men come to get you.

As masked children and demons come pouring out of the shrouded edges of reality, you cannot tell who is friend and who is foe until at last, upon your door they stand and demand:

Trick or treat.

Happy Halloween!

ODST su cks for people like me

Maybe I shouldn't bring attention to the fact that I am a loner on Live, but I'm finding it next to impossible to find people to play ODST's Firefight mode together.

I don't understand why Bungie didn't include a matchmaker, such a simple little tool that most of us FPS/Multi freaks take for granted. Oh, I found Bungie's reasoning, but in reality it's just frustrating. If you don't have 3 dedicated or 10 revolving friends to play Firefight with, then you're handicapped.

I have had the game for weeks now and haven't been able to play Firefight. I finally decided Gamespot wasn't the place to look for Fighters, so I logged on to the Bungie.net ****fieds forum. You wouldn't believe how clogged it is with Firefight/ODST requests. Bungie didn't include matchmaking and cited a more "personal" experience for it, but in reality the MM just has to occur on a website instead of in-game, and with just as many strangers.

Hmmm, maybe they thought it would sell like the Bible and everyone would own a copy?

I'm not buying it. Bungie's excuse OR the game (I Gamefly'ed it). Thanks a lot, Bungie.

My Vacation

3 days of road trippin', river swimmin', BBQin', mountain hikin', sightseein' FUN. Oh man I had a blast. A private cabin, just me and my GF, private river grotto, beautiful scenery, and then a day spent driving and hiking through one of the most beautiful places on Earth - Sequoia National Park.

Sacramento Zoo

Went to Safari Saturday yesterday for all the ice cream and soda I could eat. Great photag opps and fun with friends and family. Very wholesome, very dorky, very fun.

The Hangover

I just watched The Hangover tonight with my GF and some friends. I know I know, a little late, but we are part of a club that gives you a discount if you wait a little bit to watch movies.

OMG that movie was so goddamn funny! I was floored. Best movie since 40-year-old virgin and Grandma's Boy. I LOL'd so hard the whole movie through. My favorite part was when the naked Asian dude jumped out of the trunk and beat them all half to death.

Sorry if you haven't seen it. If you haven't and you like raunchy-ass movies this is a must-see!

Death

100 people die every minute around the world on avarage. Not sure how anyone figured that out, but I am sure it took a lot of number crunching.

So yeah, I guess a "whole lot of people" have died this month. Ed Mcman (sp), David Carradine, Fara Fawcett, Michael Jackson, and that Douche Bag Billy Mays. It's twisted to me that people who normally would give two **** about these people are all of a **** sudden R.I.P.ing everyone and saying how "tragic" it is.

It's selfish and self-serving. I know these people were probably good people (not to sure about MJ), but that doesn't change anything about my life enough for me to care past blogging this. I needed to post another one anyway :)

100 every minute. That's 1.666667 every SECOND of every **** DAY OF EVERY **** YEAR. That's Ugahdan babies and Turkish mothers and Iraqi fathers and Indonesian brothers and German sisters and Alutian cousins ... That's you and me eventually. I give a **** about those people more so than these so called celebrities.

Nothing wrong with being a gamer.

I love to play video games. I love the thought of a virtual world. I love the thought of being in control of a virtual person/thing in a virtual world. I think I love video games SOO much because I secretly wish I could help make them.

I don't know if the average person thinks about what it takes to create a video game while he or she plays it, but the time and effort involved are astronomical.

First, you need a good concept. You need to develop a why and a how, then you need to start to sketch out environment and characters, you need to go through many MANY stages of pass/fail, revisions, tweaking ... then you work on mechanics and physics, then interaction, writing the script, voice acting, sound effects, final touches, debug debug debug, beta, debug debug debug, polish and POOF, you got yourself a game.

The dev team, all support, actors, artists, marketing, execs; SOO many people. Nowadays it's like making a movie. I really have a lot of respect for the people who work their fingers to the bone for a year more or less to create a GAME!! A game that you or I might play for two minutes only to throw down the controller and think, "What a piece of junk."

If I could I would be CliffyB or J.P. from Grandma's Boy. The Nerdiest Rockstar of them all; a famous VG programmer.
