Fallout 3 Early Impressions

When I first got my 360 one of the first games that got my attention was oblivion. everyone talked about it and it got excellent reviews. it was a great game in a huge world so it had to be great right? well for me, it wasnt. the world really didnt amaze me. imo it was just a ton of grass, a city, grass, deer, crabs, city etc. the environment really didnt impress me and honestly i thought the whole first person hacking sucked. real bad. i bought that game twice and sold it twice (after giving it another chance).

So when fallout 3 was announced it actually really grabbed my attention. the main thing that drew me in was the combat. i hated oblivions combat and i thought the fps style combat would be sweet in a open world style game after seeing review though i was turned off again as many readers were saying that it was just like oblivion, if u didnt like oblivion, u wouldnt like fallout.

well i ended up getting fallout basically for nothing (previous blog) and after 3 hours in i am very satisfied. i can see what the oblivion players were so excited about. the game is huge but imo, unlike oblivion theres a alot more quests. the world is also way better. instead of just a bunch of deer in a grassy meadow, u have mutated dogs, mutants and just weird monsters. the enviroment is beautiful and the whole nuclear world is really well done.

another thing that really impressed me is the combat. it does not have the greatest fps elements but it works. the vats system though is where it really shines. im sure u guys all know what it is, u pause the game basically, pick out where u wanna shoot or hit and press a. then u watch a clip of ur character in combat. i always saw this as a cheap way of fighting but it actually works well. u have limited access to it as u have a bar that goes down everytime u use it (AP- i think) and often early in the game, u will miss. the percentages targeted on the body parts are actually really accurate.

overall this game is great and i highly recommend it to anyone remotly interested in video games. and not only was the combat/world better than oblivion but the overall graphics look better and the voice acting is the best ive herad in a long time. now i just have to play some more....
