"What you notice first about Halo 3 is literally the first thing you see: the graphics. Maybe Microsoft shot itself in the foot with the gorgeous CG "Starry Night" trailer, or even the very first trailer that shows the Chief looking over a giant crater as dozens of Covenant ships invade Earth. We were expecting a bit more. Instead, the visuals look like a high-res Halo 2 with some nice new rag doll physics and pretty water. The rocks and trees are especially bland. It's still a great looking game, but fans were probably expecting Halo 3 to at least challenge Gears of War as one of the best-looking games on the console. As of now, it does not."

Ouch!!!  What do you guys think about this new preview from IGN? I think the gameplay is tight but the visuals are very unerwhelming

looks good ythough.. i really want to play warhawk

Correction. Some of Halo's textures are better. However, some are just horrible. Take a look at the grass and some of the rock textures in Halo and you will want to puke

How many Halo 3 bashing threads are you gonna post dude? This is getting sad now... why don't you just take Bungie and MS to court already for creating Halo and ask Jack Thompson if would mind adding you on his myspace page already...

This is really sad all the crap we have to put up with on SW as a result of the hatred of the Halo franchise just because it's loved so much

I love Halo, that is why I spend the time and energy in these forums. Just because I love Halo means I can't criticise it if I think its warrented? So I should just love Halo no matter what? Sorry if I have greater expetions for the game than some do. I just want this game to deliver on all accounts.

If Mass Effect DOES come out in Sept, which is not confirmed, since it doesn't have an official release date yet, IT will be the one that suffers from sales, Not Halo 3.

BTW I'm watching a Halo 3 Red Vs Blue video in HD on my 360 right now. It not only looks next gen, it looks INCREDIBLE.

I never mentioned sales for I don't care about them. I only care about getting a Halo 3 that is amazing and next gen looking on all levels, including the graphics. I for one think the extra development time could have only helped improve the game.

Could Bungie be making a mistake releasing Halo 3 on September 25th? I for one think so. By releasing Halo 3 in September, Bungie will be losing a little over a month of precious development in which they could be polishing the game, especially the game's somewhat underwhelming visuals. I think the consensus amongst most gamers that have actually played the beta, is that while the visuals look good, they are somewhat underwhelming and could have really been so much better. Furthermore, many agree that while the game looks really good in same places, other areas are truly lacking.

Many have argued that Bungie has plenty of time to polish things up and improve on the graphics. However, IMO, with Bungie releasing this game in September(which is a month or so early from what most originally thought it would be released) I really can't see how they are going to improve the visuals that much. As Brent over at Teamxbox and even Bungie themselves said, the visuals in the beta are pretty indicative of how the graphics on the final game will look, with the exception of a few bells and whistles. I think it would be a better decision for Bungie to release this game towards the end of November or even the first part of December, in order to get as much development time in as possible.

Judging from the Beta, I and countless others think the game sorely needs it, especially in the visuals department. My question is, why is Bungie so eager to release this game in such a hurry? What could hurt with giving this game a month plus or so extra development time? For some reason, it just feels rushed to me. I sure hope Bungie and MS both reconsider their decision on this. This is the flagship title for the xbox360 and I for one think it should be given enough time and love to make sure it looks NEXT GEN on all levels. Yes, that includes graphics.

I still find it amazing to read daily the number of people who are banging on about Halo 3's multiplayer graphics being sub-par.  has anyone taken a look at RS:Vegas lately,  graphically the single player game is generally excellent, particularly the first mission.  yet take the game on live and there is (or was when i was last there) a distinct drop in quality.  Halo3's graphics for the single player game will IMO be very different from those in the multiplayer, hell the multiplayer they are looking at is a beta, why keep dredging it up every day.

danneswegman

ture, it looks much better than RB6V multi player graphics..  what does that mean for the single player?....

Ok, RB6V is a multiplat game. Halo 3 was built from the ground up to take advantage of the power of the xbox360. Furthermore, Halo 3 is the xbox360's flag ship title with tons and tons of money and manpower being devoted to it. I think there is a dig difference

[QUOTE="Colinllama"]I think the word "Beta" needs to be remembered.  It is an early version of the game.  I am sure it will be "polished" for final release and will look a little better.Optusnet

Oh, I'm sure it will look a LITTLE better. But do we really want to accept this average looking game as our "Next-gen" Halo? I for one am very disappointed in Bungie. I really think they took the "safe" route in making this game and it makes me sick.

Huh? The 'safe-route'? The fact that they're engine is built from the ground up compared to another great-looking title that uses a pre-existing engine is the 'safe route'?

I'm sure Bungie have been lazying about the past 2-3 years

Well, thats even more sad. They make an engine from the ground up and the game still looks like crap
