A Final Farewell to Joe, Alex, and Don

Game4 of the 2007 World Series. The Boston Red Sox were only a handful of outs away from sweeping their opponents, the Colorado Rockies and winning their second Title in 4 years. Instead of that being the top story, however, Scott Boras announced that his client, Yankee superstar Alex Rodriguez would opt out of his $25 millon contract. A-Rod would leave the Yankees. Few moments prior to this, Joe Torre turned down a contract, ending his tenure with the Bombers. He would not return for a 14th season in New York. The manager spot was up for grabs. It was said that another Joe, former Yankee Joe Girardi was up for the job. Bench coach, another former Yankee, Don Mattingly was also a candidate. Ultimatly, it all came down to the fact that Girardi had more coaching experience than Donny Baseball and Girardi was chosen as the replacement for the legendary Torre. A-Rod is now up for grabs for $350 mil. Joe Torre and Don Mattingly are with the Los Angeles Dodgers now.

We have Girardi. Possible free agents are: veteran catcher, Jorge Posada. All-time great closer, Mariano Rivera. Veteran left-hander, Andy Pettitte, who is also considering retirement. Very veteran legend, the Rocket, Roger Clemens, also considering his third retirement. All of the players were part of at least one championship in the late 1990's when the Yankees were completely dominant. Joe Girardi was part of the '96, '98 and '99 teams, even catching David Cone's perfect game in 1998. Bobby Abreu was signed back today. It will be interesting to see what moves are made in the offseason for the Bronx Bombers. Hopefully they can pick up Mike Lowell again.

The Playoffs End For the Yankees....Again

Okay, down 2-0 in the ALDS against Cleveland, the New York Yankees stumped the Tribe 8-4. The following day, veteran Yankees manager, and Hall of Famer, Joe Torre, started "Ace" Chien-Ming Wang on three-days rest. Wang gave up a lead-off home run to Grady Sizemore, and gave up another run before the first half of Inning 1 was over. 2-0 Cleveland. After walking and giving up a hit, Wang "hit" the catcher, getting the bases loaded. Torre went with the believed starter of that Game 4, Mike Mussina. Mussina managed to get out of the inning, while giving up two runs. 4-0 Cleveland. Later in the game, the Yankees were down 6-2, following a Robinson Cano home run, and yet another two-out RBI hit for the Indians. Alex Rodriguez, regarded as a "postseason choke artist" had not earned an RBI since the 2004 postseason, hit a solo home run to deep center, making Cleveland's lead shrink to 3. With former Yankee relief pitcher, Joe Borowski leading the AL in saves (45), Indians' manager Eric Wedge decided to bring him in. Borowski had already blown a 3-run lead, with A-Rod hitting the game winning home run at Yankee Stadium. Borowski got one out, before he gave up another solo home run to Bobby Abreu, making it 6-4. The rally would end there. Getting Jorge Posada to just barely get a home run ball into foul territory, to strike out swinging.

For the third straight year, the Yankees have been eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Owner, George Steinbrenner stated that if New York lost the series against Cleveland, Joe Torre would be out of a job in New York. This may sound like 1977, when Steinbrenner threatened to fire former-player-turned-manager Billy Martin nearly every week. Maybe the Boss just said that to keepthe Yankees on their toes. Maybe he will follow through on his statement. Either way, this is yet another sad postseason here, in New York City.

The Toubled Yankees, the AL East race, and the many fumbles of Mariano Rivera

Well, the Boston Red Sox had their shot to clinch the AL East for the first time since 1995. They beat the Minnesota Twins 5-2, while the Yankees still held on, leading the Baltimore Orioles 9-6. With the bases loaded, Hall of Fame closer, Mariano Rivera took the mound for the Yankees. Allowing a three-run triple to accused steriod abuser, Jay Payton, the Orioles tied it up in the bottom of the ninth, 9-9. In the bottom of the tenth inning, the Orioles played the role of spoiler, laying down a sacrifice bunt off of rookie Edwar Ramirez, winning 10-9, and giving the Red Sox the AL East.

The Yankees were extremely toubled in the beginning of the year, losing most of it's pitching staff to injuries, and having a below-average offense, despite arguably the best lineup in the MLB. Andy Pettitte, Mike Mussina, Carl Pavano, Chein-Ming Wang, top prospect Phillip Hughes, and others suffered a bizarre rash of injuries that plagued the already helpless Yankees. Coupled with the poor performances of Bobby Abreu, Johnny Damon, and others, the Yankeeswere indead-last in the AL East, even behind the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. With a rookie-filled pitching staff, and their lineup back to doing their job, the Yankees broke out, after the All-Star Break, becoming the hottest team in baseball. The Yankees went from being 14.5 games behind Boston, to just 1.5.

Unfortunetly,they would ultimatly fall just short of reliving 1978, in which they were 14 back of Boston, and would end up winning on a tie on the last day of the season, with the famous Bucky F. Dent homerun. The Yankees were knocked out of the AL East last night, on one of the many fumbles that have plagued Mariano Rivera, who had an ERA below 2.00 for the last 4 years, but has an ERA of 3.15 this season. He has blown 4 saves, including the one last night, for the first time since 2005, and finishing with 30 saves, his least in nearly 5 years. Mariano's career may not be over, but his career as a Yankees may in fact, be coming to an end, as his contract expires at the end of the year. Mo will have to step it up in the postseason, and prove that he is still the most dominant closer, and the greatest closer of all-time. Otherwise, rookie sensation, Joba Chamberlain, may end up taking his place in the CL position.

The Death of Scooter.

As any Yankee fan, I was not only shocked, but hurt when I heard one of my favorite Yankees of all-time, Phil Rizzuto, was dead at age 89. I understand it was his time to go, and that he was the oldest living Hall of Famer alive, but Rizzuto was always one of my heroes, and he was a great ballplayer and all-around person. I met him in 1998, when the Yankees won the series, as well as Derek Jeter and Roger Clemens, but Rizzuto was very nice to me, my family, and my friends, and Rizzuto will always be in my Yankee heart.

He will be dearly missed.

So long, Phil "Scooter" Rizzuto, your memory will live throughout Yankees fans forever.

Things in the Video Game Industry That Piss Me Off

This blog post is about the three main things that video game creators do, that really get on my nerves.

1. I personally hate it so much when video game creators, like Rockstar of Bungie, release stupid trailers three and a half months before the highly anticipated game comes out. This is exactly the case with Halo 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV. Plus, when those highly anticipated trailers of those highly anticipated games come out, they show nothing...NOTHING of the game itself. Maybe they just love pissing us off.

2. I hate it when franchises release video game console exclusives. I was mad when all the Grand Theft Auto games came out for the Playstation 2 alone. They finally wised up and ported them to the Xbox(not very well, I may add) and only then was I half-satisfied. They need to make video games for the reason they were invented in the first place... so people can be able to play them. No more, Gears of War, just for the Microsoft stuff, and no more L.A. Noire(although, there is a possibility of a 360 version).

Finally, the last thing that game creators really do that piss me off to no end.

3. I hate it so, so, so, so much, when video game developers, put so much emphasis on a crappy game. They make it seem like its going to be the greatest game ever, because of how much they hype it, and it ends up being a bad game. Take Prey for instance. This game that came out for the Xbox 360 was heavily hyped to be the next great first-person shooter, and it ended up being an overly difficult, repetitive, buggy mess of a game. Of course, there are many people that I like it, I'm assuming. Another game that ended up like this, is Red Steel for the Nintendo Wii. This game had so much emphasis on it, because it combined action movie style gunfights, and samurai sword fighting. Unfortuanetly, both of these things became very awkward in the game, and that combined with terrible controls, horrible sound/voice acting, and an unbelievably ridiculous storyline, made it a overhyped failure. And the last example I have is Sonic the Hedgehog. I loved the original, and a remake for the "next" generation consoles sounded like a great idea. The game was a resounding, and utter failure. Watch the review on here to see what I mean.

I think you for listening to my rant, and hopefully you agree with some things I said. Good night, and good luck.

No More Double-Digit Lead For Boston

Well, most of the people at ESPN, most of the people I know, and just most people in general, have said that the Yankees will not catch up to the Boston Red Sox, who are in first place in the AL East, and were leading by double-digits. Well, the Yankees have won 3 in a row, and 9 out of their last 12. Boston however, has won only 6 out of 12, and got swept by the Tigers. The gap is closing rapidly, and Boston will fall short, yet again, as the lead is by only 9 games now. The Yankees are going to climb back on top, and will win the AL East, and if not, win the Wild Card, which they are only 8 games behind. Hopefully, they will come back and win the World Series, after and 6 year drought. The Yankees, led by Alex Rodriguez's MVP type season, will make everyone that doubted them, eat their words in front of the entire country.

The M&M Boys

You know, I wasn't even close to being born yet, in fact, neither of my parents were born yet, when the M&M boys, my idol, Mickey Mantle, and Roger Maris in 1961. Their goal was to break Babe Ruth's single season home run record, 60, which he set in the "Murderers Row" era, of 1927. Mickey Mantle was an American icon at the time, so, he was heavily favored over the reigning MVP, who beat out Mickey in 1960, for that MVP title, Roger Maris. Unfortunetly, Mickey's habits of hard-partying and just the overall way he took care of himself, would send him into a downfall, late in the season. He ended the season with 54 home runs, and was put on the DL for an infected hip. That left Maris, who had 58 at the time, to chase the Babe's record. The 1961 season added 8 games, which extended the season from 154, to 162. Maris fell short of the record on the 154th game, hitting 59 for the "season". He struggled for a hit in the next couple of games, but in the last games of the season, he hit #60, and then #61. Because he did not beat the record in 154 games, they had seperate records set up. Babe was at 60, and Maris was at 61*. The asterik, pointed out that Maris did not beat the record in 154 games, but still broke the season record. In 1991, the asterik was removed, and Maris was given the record. He had died 8 years before, he did not live to see that day. Mark McGwire and Barry Bonds have since shattered Roger's record, but the M&M boys of 1961 will forever be remembered in the mind of Yankees fans.

Mickey Mantle has been my idol for as long as I can remember. That #7 that has since been retired by the Yankees, will be burned into my head forever, and I like it that way. Mickey Mantle was an American icon when he was alive, and even dead now, he will be an icon in my head.

Long live Mickey Mantle #7, RF, New York Yankees.

Rocket Man Has 350

Well, in a very good game against Minnesota last night, Roger "The Rocket" Clemens, got his 350th career win, making him the 8th to do so. I highly consider Clemens to be the greatest right-handed pitcher, along with Nolan Ryan. With Clemens at 350-181, with 4,630 strikeouts, and a lifetime ERA of 3.09, I would say his postion among legends, has already been set.

Roger "The Rocket/Rocket Man" Clemens

W/L= 350-181

SO= 4,630

IP= 4,849.3

SHO= 46

G= 697

GS= 695

Greatest Pitcher of All-Time

Barry Bonds, and the Home Run Record

Barry Bonds has, so far, hit 745 home runs in his career. Just ten shy from beating Henry "Hank" Aaron's record of 755. Now, people always ask, "Well, should he or shouldn't he?". They are reffering to him breaking Aaron's record. Curt Schilling thinks not, as do I. People can play the race card all they want, but the simple fact of this matter is, Barry Bonds does not deserve that record. Nor does he deserve beating people like Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays or Babe Ruth. He just doesn't. He can deny taking steroids all he wants, but he failed the drug test, and therefore took performance-enhancing drugs to increase his power. The drug tests do not lie. As much as I hate sticking up for a Red Sox player, I completely agree with everything the Curt Schilling said on Boston Radio. Bonds doesn't deserve any of the credit that he gets. Aaron, Mays, Mantle, Ruth, Maris, and others never used steroids, and they got far enough to become some of the greatest home run hitters of all time. Yet, Bonds is about to become the all time leader, and that shows that baseball has gone down hill. If they can allow a man that has failed the drug tests numerous times, and still allow him to be called the "Home Run King" shows that apparently, morals don't matter anymore. Like I said before, Bonds can play the race card all he wants, but don't forget that the man I don't want him to surpass is also African-American. At least, last time I checked Aaron was black, but that might have changed since then. Barry Bonds is a steroid taking, trash talking, cheating man that does not deserve the home run record, but he will more than likely get it, so what's the use of anyone ever talking about it anymore?
