I certainly think they are if you play a lot of multiplayer games or if you live with others and don't want to be making a lot of noise late at night its a good way to enjoy a game.
They are actually listening to the community and have asked fans to list 5 things they would like to see changed or added to the Multiplayer on there forums. So there could still be a possibility of a ranking system.
