[QUOTE="LatteArea"]M$ xbox is at 10% now and growing.. They are all flawed unitsQuiet_MoN3Y
The majority of the new problems are coming from there fall update. I had my 360 since launch with no problems until this update then it died. Everyone else I know with a launch 360 is having their machines now crash after no problems before.
I certainly think that you have a point here. I didn't receive any problems until then.
You are correct.Something that hasn't been said..."native" resolution and 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p can be different things. I think that is what might be confusing a couple of people. For instance...my Zenith LCD rear projector is 480p, 720p, 1080i compatible, but it only has a native resolution of 1280x720...this is literally how many pixels it can display. Therefore, there is not much difference for me between a 1080i signal and a 720p signal. Thus I am happy with component(which can easily display 720p). I don't yet own a PS3...so I'm not sure how it will work with my TV. I think, however, since my TV supports 720p, I'll be OK. Either way, I can't display any more pixels than my TV has "hardwired"(1280x720). I think I'm right about this, but as with everything in HDTV...I could be wrong.

[QUOTE="ConcreteJungle2"][QUOTE="deaconmon"]the problem is your cabling.
It is in fact true that only hdmi can carry the information in a 1080 signal - anyone who tells you differently does not know what they are talking about. You can get up to 720 through your Component video, but no more. If you tv can autodetect the resolution it is going to scale DOWN to the highest resolution it will understand.
Your hdmi/dvi connector is only allowing 720 to pass through, which is being managed by the tv as 480, since the tv doesn't understand 720.

WRONG WRONG WRONG. Component cables CAN carry up to 1080p.

agreed. Cables are just transporting info/ data. It's the PS3 that doesn't ALLOW 1080P over component cable. Component cable can handle 1080P easily. For sure. That other guy doesn't know what he's talking about. He was really sure of himself though. lol
