Tony Hawk games have a reputation for great punk soundtracks (or at least, some of the songs are great) and American Sk8land will be no exception. T.S.O.L, the Descendents, Minor Threat, all the classics. But what is this? None of these bands will be on the game. Instead, a bunch of today's bands (mostly emo/pop-punk) will cover those songs. I mean, Thrice and Minor Threat are just too different. I'll probably end up getting this game, but I'd rather listen to one of my old Buzzcocks album then this soundtrack. Fallout Boy, Thrice, and taking Back Sunday, as popular as they are today, will never live up to the legacy that is Minor Threat. In their short time together they have made a much bigger impression on the punk scene that these band will ever make. I mean, take a look at this list:
•Taking Back Sunday - The Descendents' "Suburban Home"/"I Like Food"
•Senses Fail - Suicidal Tendencies' "Institutionalized"
•Alkaline Trio - TSOL's "Wash Away"/"Beneath the Shadows"
•Emanuel - The Stooges' "Search and Destroy"
•Fall Out Boy - The Gorilla Biscuits' "Start Today"
•Thursday - The Buzzcocks' "Ever Fallen in Love?"
•From Autumn to Ashes - Fear's "Let's Have a War"
•Hot Snakes - Government Issue's "Time to Escape"
•Thrice - Minor Threat's "Seeing Red"/"Screaming at a Wall"
•Saves the Day - The Dead Boys' "Sonic Reducer"
•My Chemical Romance - The Misfits' "Astro Zombies"
•Rise Against - Black Flag's "Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie"/"Fix Me"
•Dropkick Murphys - The Adolescents' "Who Is Who"
•The Bled - Bad Brains' "House of Suffering"
With the exception of Dropkick Murphys and the Bled (because I've never heard of the Bled) these are all bands that I would never listen to, yet I'm a fan of all the old bands that are being covered. I think they could have made a better choice here.
