What are the specs of the laptop?

If youre gonna bring it to class and back then i think you should get something else besides a gaming laptop(which is what you seem to be getting, 7lbs might not sound a lot now but its gonna be a backbreaker later)

Also in a couple of months, Intel will be releasing their new mobile processors so i think it might be worth it to wait.

there are several versions of the 9800: the dual gpu 9800 GX2( sorta like the old 7950 gx2) then the 9800 gtx and i believe there will be a gt although im not sure. they will just be a bit faster than current gen cards because they are just basically die shrinks and minor improvements instead of a whole new architecture. thats why you just see those 'minor' improvements, although in my opinion 30% is just fine. and plus you'll get less heat and power usage

i agree with dracolich6666. the hd3850s run alot faster than the 2600xt or the 8600gt. only problem i see is that 300watt supply but you should be able to get a new supply for cheap. 400w should run it fine since its a 55nm part(less power draw)

For $4k, I'd get $1500 laptop and $2500 desktop. Gaming laptops are joke, I myself
have 3 laptops and laptop and gaming do not mix together. Just get $1500 to browse
and do w/e it is you plan to do, and do your gaming on desktop.

i agree. i bought a decent gaming laptop, and well, it doesn't keep up. plus you can't upgrade it and it also costs a LOT more.
