Last year I was extremely disappointed with the first video game awards show to be shown on cable TV, the Spike TV Video Game Awards [VGAs]. For anyone that actually watched and paid attention to the show, they'll notice many many problems with it. Spike TV tries to focus all of their shows on "men" supposedly. Due to this, they center their shows around actions, girls, and sometimes gaming. Unfortunately, Spike TV chose the wrong one of these to center their show around last year. It looked like they chose to make the VGAs more centered around girls than they did on video games, and many people agreed that the winners of the awards were very wrongly chosen. Unfortunately, the VGAs are approaching once again, and I'm already disappointed with how they are handling it. They lately have started playing commercials on Spike TV, and they are less than satisfactory. I have seen two types of commercials. In all of them though, they show a lot of people in a room, all wearing supposed video game character costumes. When they talk, they purposely make them all talk as "nerdy" as possible. In one of the commercials, they show two girls wearing the same costume, and the crowd lazily chanting "Fight, fight, fight." This year though, it is being hosted by Samuel L. Jackson, and hopefully that will help it be at least a little more interesting. None the less, last year's VGAs were quite disappointing. I hope that Spike TV did their research this year and are now going to center it on the video games. The 2006 Spike TV Video Game Awards are scheduled for Wednesday, December 13th at 10 PM EST, if I remember correctly. Let us hope for a good award show, for Spike's sake. Oh, and on a separate note, but yet, another disgrace to video games, while I was watching a Wildest Police Videos marathon, I saw the same commercial for the Burger King Xbox 360 video games once every commercial break. I can't even begin to tell you how stupid the games, the commercials, and overall the whole premise is.
