I am the proud owner of a new Xbox 360 Elite. Awesome, you say? Yes, but... I have still yet to be able to tap the amazing storage capacity of the 120 GB hard drive. I am still waiting for the arrival of my data transfer cable from Microsoft. While MS is kind enough to give the trasfer cable free of charge to Elite purchasers who are current 360 owners, the process off claiming said cable leaves much to be desired.
Currently Elite pruchasers who would like to transfer their data from their 20 Gb HDD to their 120 GB HDD must print a form off from the Xbox website, supply the serial number from the old and new systems, and mailed the form to Microsoft. I mailed the request form on Monday, April 30th, and here I am today May 10th with no transfer cable. Now I understand that the mail system takes time and that patience is a virtue, but why didn't Microsoft think of a better way to supply the transfer cable?
I realize that Microsoft did not intend for the Elite to be an upgrade system, but rather a new purchase. However, the folks at MS are smart enough to know that many customers WOULD buy the Elite as an upgrade and would therefore want to transfer their data from thier 20 GB HDD, not two weeks after purchase, but today.
My point is this. Why not provide the transfer cable with the system? How much can this cable actually cost MS to manufacture? My guess is very litte. If they deemed this method too costly why not make it availalbe in stores with the redemption of a voucher that can be obtained on the Xbox web site? At the very least, couldn't the world leader in software have form that can be submitted online? This would cut down the length of the process considerably.
In the meantime I sit and wonder... What would it be like to be able to turn on automatic downloads? Wouldn't it be nice to download that new TV episode? Oh well... Maybe next month.
