Welcome back Sony!!!!!

The day was 2/2/07 when I made up my mind to bring Sony back into my home. I'm sorry I ever left it. From the moment I touched the familiar controller, to loading up Resistance: Fall of Man, I felt right at home once again.

I put it to you all like this. As my previous immature blog stated, I owned a 360 and had all the top games that came out for it. From Call of Duty 2, Fight Night 3, Saints Row, Smackdown vs. Raw 2007, Prey, Gears of War, etc. I enjoyed the system and enjoyed accomplishing the achievments. Very user friendly and the online abilities are worth the price of admission. But "in the end," and I like to quote the words of Linkin Park, "It doesn't really Matter!!!"

I went through three XBOX 360s because of the rings of death. They kept sending me a new one but after three months of play the consoles all went haywired on me. I actually bought a seperarte wall unit for it so it will have no reason to overheat or any other problems and still came with the same results. Great cutomer service but not worth the aggravation of having to send your malfunctioning system back to them and wait two weeks for another one. Also, several brand new games, fresh out the wrapper froze on me on my first try of play.

I've never had any of these problems with Sony before on any of their consoles. So now I'm back with Sony and after playing Resistance, I can see its well worth it. The fact that I have a Blu-ray player (and I finally understand what its capable of) just adds icing to the cake. Not only that but unlike 360 all of my old PS2 games work fine on my PS3. I couldn't ask for more.

Sorry Sony.....360 is here.

After much deep thought and research, I've finally made my decision. I just walked into the next generation and surprisingly to me......it wasn't with Sony. I've purchased myself an XBOX360 yesterday.

I did a lot of thinking before I made this move so please don't start branding me traitor already. Yes, I'm going to miss playing all the Final Fantasies, God of War 2 and other big names PS2 and PS3 will offer. I've been playing nothing but Sony for the pass decade, so this is as much a change for me as well.

What made me switch over to XBOX360 were numerous things. As I said before in my previous blog, I refuse to pay $600 for a console where most of the features I don't believe I'll be using for some time down the road. I don't care if its Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, because either way, its still the same DVD. I mean honestly, how clear must a picture be for me to enjoy a movie that I probably saw 10 other times? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy HDTV, but that's cause its TV. DVDs I own now, I don't even watch often, so what difference is it going to make if the picture is clearer than before? I do rent movies but c'mon, a really bad movie isn't going to turn good cause of its CLEAR picture.

After reading certain reports concerning PS3, it seems Sony is not only a complicated system to make games for, but also expensive for developers to want to produce games for. This applies to all next-gen consoles but to pay $600 for a console that's going play / look as well as the 360 in the next two years, is not worth it to me.

I'll probably get PS3 later down the road but right now, XBOX360 has landed home. To say the least, the XBOX360 is one amazing machine and I just got it yesterday. I currently only own two games (NBA 2K6 & Call of Duty 2) and I can tell this system has some amazing potential. I also like to point out that after selling my Gameboy Advance with two games, and PS2 with 12 games, I bought the premium package XBOX360 plus NBA 2K6 all for $215.00 at Gamestop. Was it worth it? Well only time will tell but so far, its off to a great start.

To Buy or Not Buy PS3??

Please understand that I've been a Sony fan since Day One. I bought Playstation the day it came out (by saving up money cutting lawns for seven months with horrible allergies might I add), even though I already had a Sega Saturn my uncle gave me. I even bought PS2 without hesitation. I've invested a lot of money in video games as you can see by my Greatest games ever Blog. I could've probably put a down payment on a house with the money I spent on video games.

Anyway, when I heard the announcment of PS3 coming Nov. 17 and it being playable at E3. I sprinted to the nearest Gamestop without hesitation to reserve my PS3 before even finishing reading the article. Problem is, they weren't available for pre-order just yet. No biggie right?

I go home to read more about the PS3 and I see that they created two different versions they're releasing: 20 GB and 60 GB plus other features. Now I'm NOT looking to use my PS3 as a PC by downloading music and pictures. I just want to play great franchises on a powerful system and still be able to play some of my old favorties from the Playstation archive. Now I have to ask myself......do I really want to spend $600 on system with a bunch of extras I might not use? or spend $500 on a system that CAN'T support HD or 1080p for Blu-Ray movies and games (please tell me I misinterpreted this)?

I want a PS3 trust me, but I'm really questioning if its really worth it. $600 is almost my rent money, or 5 pairs of Air Jordans or quite possibly a XBOX360 & Wii combined. Its alot of money to me. I know I can save the money but when I get to the counter, I'm not sure I'll be willing to dish out that money.

So I sold my Gameboy Advance, with its games, plus some of my PS2 games and now have $188.00 store credit. I guess spending $462.00 plus tax isn't so bad right? OH BOY!!! Decisions, Decisions!!!

Greatest Games I Ever played

This is a tough question because I had a favorite on every system I played at some point in time. Each one of these games really showed the depth of each systems capabilities. These games are also based on first impressions because if I were to play some of them now, I probably wouldn't be as interested as I was when it was originally released. These games just left a big impression on me. I mainly chose games that were exclusive to each system. The list would be thus for me:

Arcade - Mortal Kombat II & Street Fighter II: Champion Edition

Nintendo - Super Mario Bros. 1 & 3, Jordan vs. Bird, Double Dragon 2

Genesis - Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Streets of Rage 2, SpiderMan (one of the best Spiderman's I ever played), Vectorman

SNES - Super Mario World, Mario Kart

3DO - Gex, John Madden Football, Crash N' Burn, Way of the Warrior (similar version to Mortal Kombat)

Atari Jaguar - Aliens vs. Predator (someone needs to make a sequel to this), Iron Soldier

Sega Staurn - Virtue Fighter 2, X-Men: Children of the Atom (the loading time was horrible but this was a great game)

PS1 - Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Metal Gear Solid 1, Grand Turismo, Soul Edge

Nintendo 64 - Mario 64, GoldenEye (best multiplayer to this day), Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Dreamcast - Soul Caliber, Powerstone, NFL 2K & NBA 2K (it all started here remember?)

PS2 - God of War, Tekken 5, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, NBA Street V3, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Def Jam: Fight for NY, Grand Theft Auto III and Vice City, Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

Gamecube - Super Smash Bros. Melee (gets old after awhile). I never owned a Gamecube so this why I have nothing else for this.

XBOX - Ninja Gaiden, Dead or Alive 3, Halo

Like I said, this list might be missing a few games because I haven't played & beaten everything but I did with most of these games. I also didn't include the 32X or Sega CD because honestly, they were a waste of money. Hope you all enjoyed yourselves. I'd like to hear a few of yours as well.
