@64-bit @wcwj26 Chances are, they have the equivalent protection taken out in other nations.

And I agree, I can certainly see a judge refusing to uphold the patent in certain situations. But the fact they did not invent touch screen themselves is not particularly relevant, as the patent protection for the screen itself was taken out in the 1970s/80s, which have for the most part expired now.

@wcwj26 True, but they took out a load of patents for touch screen technology! To be specific US Patent No. 7966578, which pretty much gives them exclusive rights to any multi-touch interface on an electrical device.

It's stupid I know, but that's what happens when you could throw millions if not billions of dollars at a legal team!

An intuitive touch-screen device, I wonder how long it will take Apple to try and sue them :-P

One of the issues with changing management and restructuring businesses is that share prices will fluctuate periodically before settling again when a scheme has been fully explained and put into action. Whether or not that plan works is another thing.

Now I love Sony and their products, but they have been lacking lately in terms of innovation, yes they have given us blu-ray but nothing else really stands out. In a way they have lost the unique selling point, their identity if you will. Thats what companies like Microsoft and Apple do well, they thrive on the brand and make it stand out from others. Sony need to invest more in R&D and not just for the PS4, their other products need to get their edge back!
