With so many fantastic games coming out this month, we're unfortunately bound to see a few that don't quite get the attention they deserve! Many of the friends I've asked seem confused when I mention... well, anything besides Gears of War 2.
Here are my picks of upcoming and recent games that deserve a look:
Call of Duty: World at War
Overshadowed by its own franchise, World at War provides a fresh perspective on the battlefields of World War II. Partially I'm referring to the new Japanese campaign. Moreso I'm talking about the new gameplay elements they've added.
Co-operative play is a great feature that was sorely missed in Call of Duty 4. Perks make a return here, re-implementing old ideas along with some new ones. The storyline sets a surprisingly vicious new precedent for the series.
Overall I find this game will provide more of what everybody loved about COD4, and then plenty more.
Left 4 Dead
It saddens me that nobody has heard of this game. Anybody who's played some of the developer's previous offerings, including Portal, Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source will know the sheer amount of effort and individuality that Valve cram into their games.
Raising the bar for social online gaming, pair up and battle against waves and waves and waves (and waves) of infected with your fellow survivors. Alternatively, you can actually assume the role of a zombie and collaborate against the survivors.
The demo is highly addictive, give it a try.
Mirror's Edge
Parkour is a practise that interests many people, but few have the opportunity to really experience high-speed environment scaling. Mirror's Edge fills in the gaps here, providing a seamless first-person experience with an interesting backstory.
There's something so refreshing about stringing together a perfect run, vaulting over fences and sliding under obstacles with fluid precision. Combat is merely a last resort in this game - your objective is to turn around and run like hell, a nice change from shooting your enemy in the head.
A short demo might not convince too many potential buyers. Watch some videos on this game before you decide.
