I was hoping that Gears 3 would be this question to bed. I mean, if they're focusing on that why would they care about a port thats 3 years old? biggest_loser

Well there is that Halo 2 Vista port that took nearly 3 years to come out. Not that it was a good idea considering the horrible job that was done porting the code and making new textures. At least we know the unreal engine 3 will run fine though and that Gears of War 2 would most likely run extremely well on PC's. I still expect to see it one day on PC's.

The games are easy. The only hard part is the trial and error the first playthrough when you have to learn a few pesky jumps and which levels are mandatory to progress through the game. I used to like it when I first got it because of the radical powerup weapons but after I got the Manhattan Project(which is the best turtles game imo) I stopped playing it.

I forgot to mention that Orange Box makes full use of HDR even on 360. Episode 2 looks crazy with HDR. I would say it looks better than Halo 3's use of HDR but then again HDR is used very sparingly in the orange box. I haven't played Orange box on PS3 so I can't comment on how HDR works on it.

[QUOTE="ArcticWolf77"]

The answer is 360 because of Halo 3. I am hoping U2 uses some nice HDR

Nonstop-Madness

Uncharted 1 and 2 both use HDR, but im bot sure if its proper HDR.

Don't worry your not wrong about Uncharted 1. Either they faked the HDR really good and were lieing when they stated that they have hdr effects in the game or they actually have it. I'm not sure if they are incorporating it in Uncharted 2 but despite it looking a great deal better I haven't seen anything that indicates it's use of hdr. That's a problem with HDR because sometimes the effect is very subtle but it helps the lighting feel a lot more realistic. IMO I think Halo 3 and Uncharted 1 so far have made best use of it. The only other console game I know that has HDR currently is Tomb Raider Legend for xbox 360. I can't think of any other console games that have it though. HDR requires a high amount of memory bandwith and most developers don't find the trade-off worth it. When PC games do include the option it usually hurts your fps a lot unless you have a powerful rig to back it up.

In the end the battle is so small it's not really worth talking about. Halo 3 easily wins the battle because they used 2 frame buffers to create hdr(and to great effect I might add). Bungie had made the decision early on that they wanted HDR to be supported in the game. And even still the effect isn't applied fully all the time in the distance to put less strain on the 360. If your a console gamer you won't be seeing full hdr in your games until the next line of consoles.

They have a nice article on the topic and a video to accompany.

As a series God of War is stronger overall due to the weak second entry and the toned down DMC4. However 1 and 3 were spectacular games.

God of War 1 and 2 have sharper graphics and some amazing looking vistas and spectacular animation. The secret HD mode in 2 also made it look a lot better. Not including 2 the DMC series held it's own pretty well. The graphics engines weren't as sophisticated as GoW's but the designs of the levels were fantastic. The details on the castle architecture still blow away the ugly buildings you see in 'most' next-gen games. The soundtrack is hit or miss and the story is a pile of trash compared to God of War's plot. When it comes to gameplay however, DMC is hands-down the best. God of War has well choreographed interactive scenes with its context-sensitive button presses which are great but don't make up for the simple combat engine. I won't go as far as to call it a button-masher but it approaches that style of gameplay and you can get away with it on most of the harder difficulties as well. Devil May Cry rewards skill and memorizing your move lists and having quick fingers allows you to pull of some spectacular ariel combos and it feels really rewarding. It's the reason I'm going with Devil May Cry but if God of War 3 can change enough to outdo Devil May Cry 3 then it'll definitely deserve my vote but currently I don't feel the GoW franchise approaches Devil May Cry 3.

lol. Retro. Donkey Kong Country is probably the best of the lot. 2 was exceptional as well, with Dixie and all.

That would be nostalgia speaking because 2 is superior by a longshot. It is also one of the best platformers ever made. As far as personality, artistry and sound are concerned I think DKC2 tops the greatest platformers like Yoshi's Island and Super Mario world(ironically both on the snes as well). Have fun and be sure to purchase some more great games for your collection.

I would play IV and VI after that. You might want to try X or XII after that. I would save IX for your last one because it's the best FF(well in my opinion that is), and it's always good to end on a good note ;).

i bought mine 4 those games& few more - they are def worth it imho IF the games support it. those do and its worth 20$ - although u can get them cheaper just 4 ps2.twztid13

Yes but I would like to know mainly about SotC. I have seen a God of War 2 in HD video and Gran Turismo in 1080i so I know what to expect but SotC is the main reason I am getting the cables. Can you take some pictures with a camera close to the screen(just turn off the flash. I want to see the difference in detail). I doubt you have a capture card but if you do that will be even better.

I'm kind of price concious and I have heard mixed things about component cables. I'm trying to decide whether I should buy component cables for my ps2. They cost $20 for this universal one(I only intend on using it for the ps2 though because my 360 is hooked up via vga to a 30" lcd in my family room and my ps3 is hooked up via composite to my tv in my room). I will only be using the ps2 on my big screen in my basement. It has 480p/720p/1080i output so I was thinking whether I should pony up the cash to upgrade the cables. I didn't get an s-video cable with my ps2(I hear it is almost as good as component) because I got it used. Here are the 2 cables I can either get.

The main reasosn I want the cables is for a few of my games. The games and the reasons why are; God of War 2 in it's secret HD mode, Gran Turismo in 1080i(to hold me off till GT5 comes out), and finally for Shadow of the Colossus. I bought Shadow of the Colossus recently and I want to experience as best as I can and is basically the main reason I am buying the cable. If you know whether the game looks better or worse please share. I know not all games will look better because of the capabilities of the ps2. Most games look fine on composite through an sdtv but look a lot worse on an hdtv because of the lack of aliasing. I am sure most ps2 games like DMC 3 and resident evil 4 which use a lot of low res textures for backrounds and character will look a lot worse due to the experience I have playing some of my xbox games through component.I found very few comparison shots on google so if anyone has anything to share like screenshots please do because it will definitely help. If anyone has SoTC and component/S-Video cables can you check the difference and report it here for me?

Some of the hardest games for me would be Ikaragu, Super Ghosts and Goblins. People may argue that you can memorize patterns but even with memorization the skill required for these two games is pretty intense.

Ninja Gaiden Black on Xbox was intense as well. I consider it the toughest game I have ever played. The challenge comes from true skill and the game never feels cheap. I'm still having trouble beating it on Very Hard. I tried Master Ninja mode on my friend's xbox and got slaughtered. (ninja gaiden 2 does not make the list because it uses cheapness to artificially make the game harder instead of good a.i)

Some of the games mentioned in the thread are hard but don't make my hardest list cause they are cheap. Battletoads was hard but it was hard mostly out of cheapness(it was still a blast and I'm glad I took the time to beat it). Halo CE(legendary) may be a bit cheap with the damage done but if you had good tactics, aiming skills and conserved your ammo for the bigger battles then you could get by the game. It's not so cheap that it shouldn't be on the list but it is quite manageable even if you aren't a stellar halo player. Devil May Cry 3 is a joke. The enemies are extremely stupid and the bosses are the only real challenge and even then they are not that hard to beat, they just have a high amount of health to make them last long and they do a lot of damage. Don't get me wrong I love Devil May Cry 3 dearly, but it's not hard enough to make my top 3 list.

Now for my #1 most difficult pick.....Metal Slug 3 which I'm surprised no one mentioned yet.

I am mainly refering to the console version which limited you to only 3 credits but the arcade, xbla, and anthology ports are fair game as well. The reason 1 didn't make the list was because it was much easier. 4, 5 and 6 introduced new concepts but they felt fairly easy as well and 4 and 5 felt somewhat cheap in their battles. A fair arguement could be made for 2's difficulty but in comparison to 3 it is a cake walk. Metal Slug 3's sheer epic battles were intense having enemies swarming the screen and changing the flow consistently. There were always ways to efficiently handle the enemies but it required good reflexes and a quick trigger finger. The game didn't let up until the credits only saving brief 10 second pauses to signal the end of a level. The final stage tested my skills the most. I have managed to beat the game on four credits on the anthology version but still haven't gotten past the second last boss of the game using 3 credits.

Metal Slug 3 which is one of the hardest and greatest games ever
