I had read a lot of atricles and watched videos on assembly while I waited for my parts to arrive so my build went very well, until I tried to turn the computer on. It would power up for half a second and turn off. I kept pushing the button and the same thing happened. After sleeping on the problem I realized I had stupidly plugged the connector on the end of the peripheral plug string into a fan connector on the the motherboard(they fit toghether so well) and was causing a short circuit. I removed that plug and the computer started, luckily nothing was damaged.

The whole build took me 2 hours though I could probably do it in half the time now.

I would wait a few months. There is new hardware comming out soon as well as windows 7. If you wait until late november you will also be able to take advantage of holiday deals and save some money.

Since this morning whenever i try to start my computer it reachs the screen which says microsoft corp with the repeating loading bar and doesnt go any further. Typing this off my old computer My specs are gigabyte ep45-ud3p, q6600, 4 gb corsair 800 mhz, bfg 9800 gtx, segate 7200.11 500 gb hdd and a second one for storage, vista 64bit, antec 900(no mb speaker)

i have tried moving and using different combinations of the ram, ive check the connections, disabled SMART but no success. If i put in the vista cd to attempt a repair, it locks up on a blank screen before the first menu. Everything has power and the bios works fine.

I think the hdd has failed is there anything else it could be?

Over the past 2 days my comp has acted odd. Sometimes the hdd light was solid and the comp was quite slow for no reason. When i tried to play fallout 3 which usually runs flawlessly it froze completly more it normally does and would occasionlly lock up for a few seconds.

You could buy a great gaming pc for $2000 and spend the rest on a netbook. It would be alot easier to take to class than a 20 lb gaming laptop.

Thanks for the feedback, i will stick with the quad core and probably overclock to 3Ghz in the future. I can get this psu bundled with the mobo for only $55 more http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182069 is this a good power supply, will it fit properly in the antec 900?

Daytona_178

Just so you know it only takes about 15 seconds to overclock a Q6600 to 3Ghz,,,just set the voltages to manual and put the fsb to 333 with a 9x multiplier! :D

Doesnt the stock cooler have to be replaced when overclocking?
