Story: The story in Borat is fairly bland, although the story is not what is special in this movie. What is really special in this movie is the hilarity and the jokes that can actually stand alone perfectly. The story in Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit of Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (yes, all that’s the title) is basically that Borat lives in Kazakhstan and he is sent to “US and A” to learn about what makes America such a successful country. While he’s there, he falls in love with Pamela Anderson and treks across the country to find her. Like I said, while it is kind of bland with no real twists, the plot works, plain and simple.
Acting: Sacha Baren Cohen is without a doubt a genius, and he takes that genius and puts in behind Borat to obtain a sense of outlandishness and awkwardness. This film reminded me of one of those hidden camera shows where the people have no idea what’s going on and you see their expressions raw and real, and Cohen actually made Borat look like a Kazazk instead of a guy pretending to be one.
Sound: Obviously, a comedy wouldn’t be a comedy without those lines that people repeat for months and months to come, and Borat is stocked full of those lines. The fact that he delivers them with a hilarious accent only makes those lines even better. The music in Borat is also hilarious in the fact that it’s Kazazk music and, well, it’s just funny in some sort of way.
Comedy: When it comes to a comedy, Borat is one of the best. It accomplishes EXACTLY what a comedy is supposed to do, and that’s make you laugh without making things too complicated. This made me laugh a TON, and as you can see, the plot was not the least bit complicated.
