Anybody attend?
I definitely wasn't as prepared as I though I was. The only things I brought with me were an energy bar and my bookbag with about 10-15 comics. I go there and I see people with suitcases and rolling luggage with boxes of comics to sign. That's planning and dedication!
My two main reasons for attending is seeing/meeting Jim Lee + Kevin Smith and getting comics signed by my favorite creators.
First Jim Lee. I new that I wouldn't have been able to get to the signing on the first day cuz of the ticket- obtaining conditions(getting to the JJC by 8:30AM was no picnic). I arrived at 5. I tried to manage getting a signing from the Midtown Comics booth to sign two comics and get to the Spotlight on Jim Lee at 6:00PM but it isn't until 6:30 that I get it signed. damn overlapping schedules. I tried to get to the last 20 minutes of Jim Lee to realize I don't know where the heck it is being held. So I decide to get tickets for the Jim Lee signing on the 25th.
I got there about 8 o'clock and the line is already at the stairs! I see the line and I am floored and confused. I see the line but don't know what it is for. I ask one of the guards the question and am met with one response, "it's to get into the show". I wasted precious moments for that?
I was a bit miffed that there was no line separate for the special events but I trudged onward. After an hour or so I get the dread news that the tickets for the Jim Lee signing were sold out. My mind go all over the place. Now my head is swirling with questions. How many people actually got the tickets? How many tickets were actually available? why was the signing only an hour? I wondered if the Kevin Smith tickets were still available and, praise be to God, there are still tickets available.
Then I and so many people before me are are trying to get into the main floor. Then see the line to get in and it is insane. It was like looking at a small intestine.
The line for Kevin Smith was no joke but, oddly enough, there were empty seats in the back of the special events. I then remember tha th Frank Miller is signing while the Kevin Smith thing is going on. Dang.
After that I take some pictures outside the Special Events hall and try to get back to the main floor and there's a line to get back in! I try to get to the Frank Cho signing and I realize I don't know where the heck it is being held and there is only 30Mins left! Where the hell is Autographing Area Table 2? I never a got a map of this place, where the hell do I get a map? Suffice it to say that I didn't get to the signing.
I get to David Finch's booth to hear he's sketching. I think yay! My day isn't a TOTAL bust! It's all free? DOUBLE yay! The line looks pretty small so I think I will be getting a sketch, right? WRONG! I'm wondering what is taking so long. After 45 minutes I hear he isn't doing anymore sketches cuz its taking so long. I only wanted a sketch of 2 eyes and he's giving them full headshots! Of female characters! What, he's coloring in the Scarlet Witch's + Spider-Woman's hair?! WTF!? Are people asking for those full headshots or is he doing that anyway? By this time I am pissed to no end. So I only get a measly 2 inch sized signature! I wasted an hour for that?!
