Did you uninstall the drivers for the onboard adapter?:) Just a suggestion.
this is either a dead beat card, or b a driver issue. if it was heat your system would reset not just freeze and hang. can you give more details like what your doing when you freeze, is it a BSOD? did you test DX and make sure that its not a DX issue? have you tried various driver versions? what versions did you try?
Does anyone know of a website available to describe how to set up windows xp to boot into a games only configuration? I dont know if its even possible to do this. If it is, I would like to know how.

We need a new Far Cry. How bout Far Cry II, or Far Cry Continues? Any way the game was good to play and its time to further the adventures of Jack and Valerie. Looks like Crysis will not be a continuation of this. I realize that the game is several years old now, but the gameplay was enjoyable.
