I have to disagree with what you are saying because the audience is not the one putting this changes in. At the end of the day it is still the developers decision whether they keep the original idea or go with a new one NOT that of the audience. So look at the devs and not the people.

Besides, you can always play the original Doom 3 if you want.

And then you look at games like Skyrim which will supposedly have what, 200+ hours in one play through. Now that's getting your money's worth!
