@darren_evans: And often they're poorly optimized so you still need the high-end hardware to get good performance. Also, are the Germans still the bad guys in this edition?
So I respect your opinion, but I keep wondering when games being full of bugs and being released before they've even gotten out of alpha will start to be factored into scores again by professional reviewers. When this game came out it wasn't much more polished than Big Rigs, and five years later it's still in beta, full of thousands of bugs that will probably never be fixed now that they've already moved onto MSFS 2024.
@WillyWynn Wow, you're kind of angry. :/ It sounds like you haven't checked out PES since 2009, the last game that had 16-direction movement and passing. Do you understand the irony of your last sentence? You are paying $60 each year for a very minor upgrade on the previous year's game. The only things that change in FIFA are the game modes and the team rosters.
Wait- can't touch FIFA with regards to "graphical splendour?" FIFA's graphics haven't changed since FIFA '06, and gameplay-wise, well... EA's aim with all their games is to appeal to the widest audience possible and sell games to the mass market of un-suspecting, un-critical casual fans who think FIFA is great because it's better at automatically aiming your passes and once you figure out the usual 2 or 3 fail-safe scoring plays that are in every FIFA game you can completely dominate the computer opponents. PES is a game that allows you to play in any style you wish provided you actually understand the way soccer/football works, not just to play again and again through the same channels like in every FIFA game since RTWC '98. Don't buy PES if you only know who Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid are.
FIFA, NHL and their sports franchises in general are the most overrated games on the market. Before the addition of ultimate team and their game modes that update in real time there was no replay value after the first month because the poor, repetitive in-game action was too frustrating. The only things any EA Sports games have going for them is exclusive licenses and massive advertising campaigns to make up for their flawed, incomplete games. I was loyal to EA Sports for years until I finally had enough and first switched to 2K for hockey and PES for soccer. Their driving games are terrible these days as well.
Oh, and worst of all, dating all the way back to the mid-90s their customer support has been absolutely terrible, like clockwork they remove references to and support for the previous year's title as soon as the new one comes out, and therefore the online functions of most of their games become useless.
