[QUOTE="pokemonsos"][QUOTE="kbaily"][QUOTE="pokemonsos"]ok. I'll look into the Sonic 2, Sonic 3, and Sonic and Knuckles. BUt I want to know before I waste Wii Points, which one's the best? I mean, more fun? And do they have a story line? Or is it just like the Sonic the Hedgehog game on my iPod where u just run to the end?kbaily
Well the original Sonic triliogy is a must play for all Sonic fans. Keep in mind, these came out back in the days before CG cutscenes so the story is more simplistic. As Whoozwah said, Eggman (in those days Robotnick) has captured animals, locked them in robots and it's up to Sonic to smash his way though the levels to stop him.
I'd recommend though saving money and trying to find a copy of the Sonic Mega Collection for the Gamecube because you can play that on your Wii and now it will only run you about $15 and you get the original trilogy, the Sonic and Knuckles add on features like playing as Knuckles in Sonic 2, and the Sonic 3 + Knuckles (the complete 3rd game), then there's so-so spinoffs of Sonic Spinball and Robotnick's Mean Bean Machine and avoid that god awful Genesis verson of Sonic 3D Blast. Also, if you find it and have the extra cash, there's also the Sonic Gems Collection but the only must play game on that is Sonic CD, maybe Sonic Triple Trouble and Tails's Adventure, the remainder are decent distractions at best.
ok, I went out and can't find Sonic Mega Collection for GC, so I'm gonna see if there's anything good for the Wii. Actually, I'm gonna go look right now...
ok, I see Sonic 2. Looks kinda cool 'cause it's multiplayer. So I'm gonna get it. But tomorrow though. Thanks for the suggestions! :D
I give you a rundown of the Sonic VC title and which ones are worth your time...
Sonic the Hedgehog (Gen.) This is where Sonic began. Keep in mind, this game is over 15 years old back before there were CG cutscenes and the story is pretty straighforward in that Robotnick (now Eggman) has kidnapped animals and trapped them in robots and it's up to Sonic to save them. It's just your standard run and jump gameplay. If you reach the end of the stage with 50 rings, there will be a huge ring you jump through to go to the special stage and collect the chaos Emerlds. And the Labyrinth Zone sucks!
Sonic 2: It is definitely the best and has slightly more story. This time Robotnick has built a Death Star-like fortress called the Death Egg and this was where Tails was introduced as well. The gameplay is more polished. It's easier to reach special stages because collecting 50 rings then hitting a checkpoint pole will take you to the much better designed 3D halfpipe special stage and this was also the introduction of Super Sonic (once you had all the emeralds). The two player mode isn't much. You have a series of 4 stages where one plays as Sonic and the other plays as Tails and you race, but in the single player game, hooking up a second controller lets a friend play as Tails (sort of) but they have to keep up with you. In the final battle Sonic has to fight the Metal Sonic prototype (as I like to call it)
Sonic 3: It actually picks up where #2 left off. After defeating Robotnick, his Death Egg crashes to Earth on Angel Island where Robotnick learns of the Master Emerald which he wants to use to repower his Death Egg so he tricks Knuckles into thinking that Sonic and Tails are thieves out to steal the Emeralds and Knuckles plays the villian in his debut. The game is good but I agree with everyone here that without the "Sonic and Knuckles" expansion it doesn't feel quite complete, but the game does let you choose to play either Sonic or Tails (and Knuckles with the expansion).
The others Spinball, Mean Bean Machine, 3D Blast and the Master System Sonic, aren't must haves and only buy them if you absolutely have to experience everything Sonic.
ok thanks! that's good to know from a true sonic fan! I'm gonna try to get Sonic 2 today. and good sums of the games!
