The now current generation is the first generation that ive really been old enough to beon the know and really be able to get out there and lineup on launch days being that im now 17. The first gaming memories i have are of sonic and mario one the SNES and Sega, but ive been told i played games before that just not well and i cant remember. The the nintendo 64 gen was the generation i really decided that games were a big part of my life and that i wanted to get into them more. The last gen was a generation i knew about but i wasnt really informed and was like "Wow, theres a PS2?!?". About '02, '03 that i really started to be an game site watcher and really became informed on games and console launches. When the 360 launched i was 15(wow, whered the time go).Now that i was more knowledgable about games i knew this generation was going to kill. Now, enough about my life. It's time to get to the reason for my post. If there is one thing ive learned from this console generation, its that you should never buy a next generation console at launch.I will start with the 360 launch. I lined up in front of a Cost-Co on the morning of the seventeenth and was about the 20-ought person to get one out of a possible 55 they had. I got one and took it home breeming with joy. I bought perfect dark and Kameo came with it. Two solid titles ,but not unbelievable. There were a food good titles other than thoes at launch like call of duty 2 and NFS:MW. But after the launch games there was absolutely no other coming out, literally. Then there were a couple sparse 7.5-esque titles, but nothing worth buying a console for. I remember counting the days untillFull Auto came out. FULL AUTO!!! But thank god i saw the review and didnt buy it ,but that still means there even less to hold you up till the good games come out. The 360 didnt start hitting on all eight until the fall and winter of 06 when the Gears of War and Viva pinatas and other games came out. Those were the triple A games we had been waiting for. People are still playing those great games that came out last year cause the are that good. So basically you didnt even really need to own a 360 to fall of last year, a year after launch. Also, the early adopters get the oldest and worst hardware, Especially with the 360. Now i will move onto sony. There are in the same situation ,but even worse. They had the most expensive console with a launch line-up not as good as Microsofts, but it had resistance. My sitaution was terrible at the Sony launch. Now that everyone knew they could get a PS3 and sell it online for big profits at launch it made getting one very hectic. My parents let me skip school on launch-day to get one. I tried to line up the night before butI was rudely awakened. Every spot had been taken everywhere, several days before. Almost all were headed towards ebay, so i went with them. I was so hyped up for the system i bought a 20gig on ebay by accident because i wasnt paying attention, but i got a good price, the console, an extra controller and Marvel:UA with free shippinng for 900. Good compared to most the auctions i saw, especially since won the auction day after launch. But the guy shipped it ground so i had to wait a week. During that week my brother brought his PS3 from college home and we beat Resistance and played the crap out of the multiplayer. After about a week, by the time my console arrived, i had already got myfill of resistance and i havent played it since then. This was during the week of the lauunch too. When my console arrived i bought Component cables for it andsold Marvel because i already beat it 360. And as time passed even till now, i havent been excited for any game to come out for the ps3. Besides resistance every other title has been fairly lame or multi-plat. I tend to get the 360 version of multiplat games because most of them are built for the 360 and are better because of it, Actually, i havent bought a PS3 game ever for my PS3. It has been played for probably a total of 10 hours since launch. So for about the eight months ive had it ive played less than 10 hours of games on it, including ps2 games i played on it. The thing is, it isnt a hardware or compatibility problem, its a lack of games. Besides Resistance there hasnt been one game to come out that is worth buying for the PS3(Me personally). All it is used for in my houseis fora blu-ray player and dvd player(folded 200= protiens). But now that this fall-winter is coming, we are getting great games like haze and Lair and UT and LBP. These are games you get a console for. And on top of all that, the multiple SKu's that come out and price drops that come out after launch kicks the early adopters in the crotch. The same is happening for the wii. The controllers sweet and the consoles great but the games just arent there. Consoles arent worth purchasing till the fall of the year after they are released. THat is what this current generations short history has taught me. So next time we have this nex-gen go around, just wait. Save your wallet and wait. In the end youll be better off.
