Red Orchestra

Some days ago I read about a past offer on steam, Red Orchestra for $5. I missed it, so i had to pay $20, complete price.

I had my doubts, like with any other new and unknown title. What pushed me to buy it was a screenshot of a corpse hanging head-down with arms hanging.

The menu wasn't very much appealing, so looking for the first time the game's interface is not so impressive, until you start playing.

There is no single player, so you go straight to server choosing. Not many servers, even less with a good ping for me, but I went right in the first I could find.

You can choose between Allies and Axis, Russians and Germans, and you get to choose from different "classes", this determines the weapons and actions you can do. Rifleman is the only class without player cap, so obviously I had to go Rifleman.

The graphics look neat, I can play the game at max setting with full AA and AF. The sound is very impressive, all effects are pretty clear and help you a lot on the battlefield.

The hard part of the game is getting used to the movement and the amount of accuracy you need to shoot. This is nothing close to arcade shooters like Halo, or Team Fortress 2 massive shooting style. The standard rifle and all the models in the game are very close to real proportions and functionality, so you have to reload your weapon after each shot.

Like in real like, 1 rifle shot in your torso will most likely send you out of combat, dead. You can get injured, loose your weapon while getting shot, and be unable to run or even walk if they shoot your legs. This game can be very stressing, because everything feels so real and acts so realistic.

I'm already killing people, it's not easy at first, but if you pratice a bit with the rifle, stay back and try to kill enemies with your weapon you'll get the hang of it quick enough.

This is a very entertaining game, and for it's price I strongly recommend it to annyone that likes online shooters. The community is growing very fast, and the developers have release all kind of tools to mod the game, and there are already a couple mods that add new settings and items to this already very appealing game.

Have a good time and enjoy the game.

New rig up and running!

After some technical problems with my new power supply, having to buy a new mother board, and some other problems, finally I got my new parts to start running.

The CPU is an Athlon X2 5200+. 2.6ghz, 2mb L2 cache, very very fast.

The video card is a 8800gts 320mb XFX. There's not much to say here.

2gb, couple HDDs, ok mobo, PSU CoolerMaster eXtreme Power 550w.

I maxxed every game I have installed with x2 AA, and no AF, at 1280x1024.

Edit: my 3dmark shows 8433. Wonder if this is correct?

Portal!

First off, go check some of the Ending Credits song lyrics: a post I made!

Will make my post short and simple:

The best: Completely new game-****genre/feel for video games. The portals idea is genius.

The good: The game has a very nice gameplay mechanic. The sound is very good. The graphics are clean and good looking.

The story, even thou it's very short, opens a lot of possibilities for future sequels/prequels, that, as stated on 1005s blog, connect with Black Mesa and the Half Life series directly.

The not too good (there's nothing bad in this game): Incredibly short. Maybe some future releases of more puzzles, and user created challenges will add a lot to this game. Lets just wait!

City of Villains

I started on this game about a month now. I was really up for Tabula Rasa, but it was a bit of a let down. I was hoping for something better, or different I think. It's not that there's anything wrong or bad about it, I just didn't felt like trying it more. I might buy it since I feel it could be a good gaming experience.

But City of Villains/Heros did gave me the feeling I was looking for. The comunity is awesome, and I found a Super Group (guild sort of speak), that has a Ventrilo server, and a lot of nice things, and the gaming experience is just amazing. Having much much fun with it.

PC specs situation: Still waiting for my new hardware pieces, my dad is going to the states in a couple of weeks. I decided to go like this:

AMD X2 5200+ 2.6ghz

XFX 8800gts 320mb

and some Power Supply I don't remember but it was strongly suggested by many people so I decided to go for it. Looking forward to it!

Inside Tabula Rasa beta

I'm on the beta, and it's very cool. Waiting to see the finished game, and I hope they give a few days for trial before having to buy, just to try the actual live game, when all is polished. Since I don't understand much of the NonDisclosure Agreement, I won't say anyhting else besides try the game.

You might give it a try, it will be a good experience. I'm upgrading my PC to an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ and an X1950XT graphic card, to at least being able to run the latest coming games like Crysis, that looks quite promising.

Guild Wars

I just bought an account for Guild Wars :D Right now I'm downloading the client for it. I hope to have some fun! People told me it's a good game. Let's see just how good it is.

Diblo II

As I write this, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction is finishing the installation. It feels so good to know I'm about to play one of my favorite games of all time. No matter what I do, what games I discover, I always go back to Diablo II and Warcraft III.

Game Collection

I sold my PS2 and currently, since I have a new PC, only play games here. So I'll be removing all the games I don't own anymore... let's see how much games it takes away... and don't mind my PC Aficionado emblem because it's on vacation and don't know when it will return (disappeared? and people at the Emblems Union told me it would come back... but... ???)
