Its just the little things...

After being on Gamespot for quite sometime, and reading a lot of the reviews and then subsequent replies, it always gets annoying when the age old argument of consoles Vs PC arrives.

My personal view is that a PC will always be a better games machine than a console, not graphically or hardware orientate, just by how much fun i actually have whist playing my PC.

Don't get me wrong, i do have a few consoles laying about the house (X-BoX, PSP, PS1) but the list of consoles Ive actually owned in the last 20 years, goes beyond what a lot of people realise.

So what i will do is list the consoles that i have acquired along the way, and then explain how i had them, now i know after reading this list a lot of people will think I'm lieing about it, but then that's for them, and at least i know the truth of the matter.

Anyway, here is the list of consoles I've owned, and as a added surprise, ill list the games i enjoyed most.

SEGA

Master system, Wonderboy 3 the dragons trap. spy vs spy, sonic the hedgehog 1,2,3, Alex the kid,

Game Gear, Golden Axe Battler, and shinobi

Mega-Drive, HerZog Zwei, Sonic the hedgehog 1,2,3, Lemmings

Sega Saturn, Daytona, Virtual racing

Dream-cast, shenmue, Crazy taxi, Soul caliber

Super Nintendo Entertainment system (SNES) Mario world, F-zero, Flashback

N64, Zelda ocarina of time, Zelda Majora's mask, Jet force Gemini, Conkers bad fur day, golden eye

Game Cube, Pikmin, Zelda windwalker, Starwars rogue squadron

ATARI

Lynx, Bill and teds amazing adventure, rampage, Todd's adventure in slime world

Jaguar, Aliens Vs predator, Doom, Myst (CD ADD ON) Tempest 2000

PHILIPS

CDI, 7th hour

PANASONIC

3DO, Need for speed (yep before the PS1 had it), return fire, PO'ed

SONY

PS1, Gran turismo, Gran turismo 2, FF7, FF8, FF9, Colony wars, Soul blade, Tekken 2. 3. Command and conquer, Wipe out 2097

PS2, Gran turismo 4, FFX (didn't have this very long)

MICROSOFT

X-BOX, Project Gotham 2, Halo, Halo 2, Full spectrum warrior, Black

As you can see, I'm no stranger to consoles, so why do i like the PC so much now?

Well simple answer,Its called freedom, freedom to not have to worry about it being out of date, freedom to not have to worry about not being able to play my old games, and more importantly, freedom to change it bit by bit when and how i chose too.

Also, with every game now almost multi platform, there really is no need to go back to console gaming, PC are easy to upgrade, and if upgraded properly do not cost you a arm and a leg to play the latest games.

A few myths about PC gaming.

MYTH

- You need to get a whole new PC when a new game above your specs comes out,

- This myth is false,if upgrading properly, the most you need to upgrade is your graphics card

MYTH

- A top end PC costs £1000 to £3000

- This myth is false, If you already have a case, then this gives you a base to start from, so forget PCWORLD, or Alienware, you build a Top end PC for as little as £400, recently I've been upgrading my PC from a 3.06gig P4, with a MSI PM8M3-V AGP motherboard, and 6800ultra, to a Quad core 2.4gig, 2gig PCI-E motherboard with a 8800GTX, and all its cost is £450 and the time to put the components into my case and load the drivers and OS onto it.

MYTH

- Consoles are better than PC because they do not have a OS in the back ground

- This is false, although a PC does indeed run a OS in the back ground, with 2 gig of ram at less than £40, there really is no need to fear a OS using more than what your game needs, even on 1gig or ram and a OS like XP, you can still comfortably run a game and have the OS, and use less than 700meg of RAM in the process. Unless the amount of ram you have installed is being used totally, you should get little to no page filling to hard drive (the process at which a amount of your hard drive is used as virtual ram, this is slower than ram as its data that is written to and from the hard drive)

There are a lot of misconceptions about the PC and its ability, agreed about 10 years ago when the Pentium 166mhz was out, PC gaming was rather poop to say the least, but nowwa days, with the hardware available, even a 3 to 4 year old system can run new games comfortably

Anyway, i suppose I've babbled on way to much, may be next time i will go into the other benefits of having a PC that's almost top end, but for now ill just leave it be.

PS,

Reason i owned all them consoles, is because i used to work at a computer shop, and spent most of my wages on them, now i have a wife and kid on the way, and need a more relaxing game time with out hogging the use of one of the TV's in the house.

My 10 games.

Well after finding this 'ere blog button, i thought id right something, So here we are. my top ten games.

1. Doom

Yes the original doom is my number one game of all time, Mainly because it was just so addictive. OK so the graphics are a bit dated now. but for the time it was a master piece, The small corridors, the level design. the monsters. the sound of cocking your shotgun after every round. Genius.

 2. Half-life

Another memorable game. Though i have to admit, the ending was a bit boring for me.

3. Resident evil 1

Aah, the best horror game of its time. many a night i sat there. glued to my screen, and jumping outta my skin..

4. Final fantasy 7

This is a gem of a game, and if you have never played it. then your missing out on something. the best storyline in any-game I've had the pleasure of playing.

5. Medal of honor: allied assault.

Easily one of the best historic games. the fact you can do the Normandy beach landing out of saving private Ryan is a truly unforgettable experience. and really made me think about what them poor solders had to go through on that day.

6. Call of duty 2.

Another WW2 game makes it into my top ten games.

7. Gran turismo 1

One of the finest racing games around. the amount of cars was just staggering. and the handling was just perfect. throwing a NSX or Subaru round the track side ways, always brought a smile to my face.

8. Half life 2

Although its a good game. i still didn't get a sense of re-playability from it. there is some good action, but its split up with some horrible driving zones. if they had just managed to leave the boat and buggy out of it. it would of been closer to my number 1 spot.

9. Doom 3

With all the hype surrounding this game, it was always going to be hard for this not to impress. The graphics were incredible. and although the weapon sounds seemed a bit weak. it definitely had the atmosphere.

10. Command and conquer

Who can forget sending over 100 units into the fray of a Tesla coil. and watching them all burn lol.
